University Of Minnesota - Minneapolis, MN

The University of Minnesota’s Twin Cities campus is a prime location for a Nike Tennis Camp.  Its brand new Baseline Tennis Center consists of 22 tennis courts (10 air conditioned indoor and 12 outdoor), with plenty of spectator seating. The Baseline Tennis Center is home to the Big Ten Conference’s Minnesota Gopher tennis teams.

This year, Minnesota is offering one week of general overnight and day camp (June 15-20) for all levels, one week of tournament training camp (June 22-27) for tournament level or ranked players looking to improve their match play and strategy in a competitive environment, and one week of day camp (June 29-July 3) for all levels.

Staff
The camp is directed by head women's coach Tyler Thomson and head men's coach Geoff Young.  Coach Thomson is in his seventh year at Minnesota.  In 2003, he was named 'Big Ten Co- Coach of the Year,' while leading his team to the program's first-ever regular-season Big Ten Championship.  Prior to being named head coach, Thomson was an assistant coach at William & Mary from 1997-2001.  He assisted in three NCAA Team Tournament berths in 1998, 1999 and 2000, including a quarterfinal finish in 1998. Thomson coached three All-Americans, six ITA Scholar-Athlete All-Americans and ten ITA nationally ranked players.  Among individual honors, Thomson received the ITA 'East Region's Assistant Coach of the Year' award in 1999.

Geoff Young was named head coach of the Golden Gopher men’s tennis team on July 25, 2006. A native of Marion, Ohio, Young  spent the previous six seasons as the head coach of the University of Denver men’s tennis team. During his tenure with the Pioneers, Young posted a 71-68 (.511) overall record. Last season, he led DU to a 13-9 record, a program-best fourth-place finish in the Sun Belt Conference and a final Intercollegiate Tennis Association ranking of 66. Young served as the head women’s tennis coach at Denver during the 1999-2000 season and during the fall of the 2000-01 campaign. Prior to coming to Denver, Young served as an assistant coach at the University of Alabama for three seasons.
