Embry Riddle University - Prescott, AZ

Directing this summer's camp is Jon Wente, Head Coach at Central Arizona University. Jon Wente is in his third year as Head Coach at Central Arizona.  The CAC Baseball Team finished 43-21.  The 2007 team was Region 1 Champions and West District Runner Up.  The team finished two wins shy of going to the NJCAA World Series. Coach Wente returned to Central, after spending one year as the Head Coach at Odessa College and two years as Head Coach at Hutchinson Community College.  His record over that three year span was 111-59, and all three years his teams made the playoffs.  Before that, Wente spent 5 successful years at Central Arizona.

The Vaqueros of Central Arizona College captured the 2002 National Junior College World Series Championship in Grand Junction, CO after posting 50 wins that year.  At Central, Wente was the pitching coach and recruiting coordinator for the Vaqueros.  He spearheaded bringing in all the players into Central over that five year span where there were over 30 players drafted, over 20 All-Conference selections, and 1 player and pitcher of the year in the conference.  As the pitching coach at Central, Wente’s pitching staffs led the ACCAC in era in each of his five seasons.  They also won four straight conference titles and appeared in in 1999 and 2002 (National Champions).  During Coach Wente’s five years at Central, the Vaqueros posted a record of 228-86 record.  Coach Wente currently has over 14 players playing professional baseball, including Rich Harden of the Oakland A’s.

This past fall, Coach Wente was the Pitching Coach for Team USA 18 and under Junior National Team which won the silver medal at the World Championships in Cuba. Coach Wente also has coached the USA Baseball Stars (pitching coach) in 2005 during the USA Baseball Tournament of Stars in Joplin, MO. This is where the Junior National Team is chosen.
