SPRING TRAINING FACILITY FOR THE PITTSBURG PIRATES!!!

Pirate City, located in Bradenton, Florida is the home Spring Training Facility of the Pittsburg Pirates Baseball Team.  This summer it hosts its first ever NIKE Baseball Camp!

Director of the camp is Head Baseball Coach, Bob Rikeman. Coach Rikeman is entering his third season at Newberry College and eighth summer as a NIKE Baseball Camp Director. Prior to taking over at Newberry, Coach Rikeman spent  ten seasons as head baseball coach at Rollins College in Orlando, Florida.

As the head coach of the Tars, Rikeman looked to develop a squad capable of competing in one of the toughest baseball conferences in the country. Sunshine State Conference schools claimed four NCAA Division II championships in the 1990s and from top-to-bottom the league is annually one of the toughest in Division II. In addition to their tough conference slate, the Tars traditionally also play several games against quality NCAA Division I competition.

  

Rollins finished with a 48-12 record and a 2004 NCAA DII World Series finish (4^th Place), the best in school history.  They were the 2004 NCAA DII South Region Champions and the 2004 Sunshine State Conference Champions (first in school History).  They broke a school record with 48 wins and had the fewest losses since 1967 (12).  Coach Bob Rikeman was named 'Coach of the Year' in the Sunshine State Conference and 'Coach of the Year' in the South Region.  Pitcher Steve Edsall, was named 'Pitcher of the Year' in the Sunshine State Conference and player Toby Rice was named 'Player of the year' in the Sunshine State Conference.  Edsall was also a 2^nd Team All American and Rice a 3^rd Team All American.

 

Players train and stay at the Pirate City facility which includes 4 Full Fields, 1 half field, 10 Outdoor Bullpens, 6 Bullpens In Cages, and 6 Batting Tunnels.  All fields are fully staffed and maintained by the Pirates year round.  The Clubhouse includes 4 Full Locker Rooms – Pirates typically occupy as many as 2 during the year, 2 Full Bathroom/Shower facilities, and 1 Dedicated Coaches Locker Room with bathroom/showers.  The facility also includes a Full Working Weight Room.
