Located near Long Island's parks and beaches, the 75-acre Adelphi University campus is only 45 minutes from New York City, offering a safe, suburban campus environment for our camp.

Camp Director: Gloria M. O'Connor
Gloria O'Connor came to Adelphi in 2008 with a combined 14 years of coaching experience at the high school and collegiate level. From 1989 through 1992, she was head of the C.W. Post field hockey program and gained another 10 years of experience as head coach at Carle Place High School.
 
At Carle Place High School O'Connor achieved unparalleled success, posting a record of 146-18-21 that included nine league championships, seven county crowns and four New York State championships. She is also a member of the Long Island Field Hockey Coaches Hall of Fame (1990) and is also a member of the Carle Place High School Hall of Fame as both a player and a coach.
 
A long time teacher and administrator, O'Connor is no stranger to Long Island schools, having spent time at John Adams, Roosevelt, Rushmore Elementary, Floral Park and most recently Sewanhaka Central High School as Assistant Superintendent for Personnel and Administration. She was the Principal at Floral Park Memorial and also held the position of Director of Athletics and Physical Education at Sewanhaka High School. 
 
Assistant Coach:  Ellen Axelsen
Ellen Axelsen is entering her first season as an assistant coach with the field hockey program. Axelsen was a four-year letter winner at LaSalle University, earning Atlantic-10 all-conference honors as well as all-academic honors. The captain of the field hockey team in 2007, she also posted three shutouts that season and was second in the A-10 in saves with 130. Logging over 4,200 career minutes in goal for the Explorers, Axelsen is all over the record books. She is fourth in career minutes played(4,231:47), second in career shutouts (seven), and sixth in career saves with 348.  Axelsen currently resides in New Hyde Park.

 
Assistant Coach: Elise Galvanin
Elise Galvanin is in her first season as an assistant coach with the Adelphi University Field Hockey program. While pursuing her master's at Adelphi University, Galvanin worked as a graduate assistant (GA) in the Physical Education and Human Performance Science Department.  As a GA, Galvanin structured strength and conditioning programs for Adelphi's intercollegiate athletic programs and conducted performance testing on nationally recognized tri-athletes. In addition, Galvanin is a certified personal trainer through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and is currently pursuing her exercise specialist certification through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).  While at Hofstra University, Galvanin helped the Pride finish the 2003 season 12-8 overall and received the Colonial Athletic Association's (CAA) Commissioner's Academic Award. Galvanin's coaching experience includes work at numerous field hockey camps in the Northeast including Springfield College, Bryant College, and Hofstra University. Galvanin, who is originally from Massachusetts, currently resides in Long Beach, New York.
