San Diego/La Jolla - La Jolla, CA

Junior golfers of all ability levels are invited to join UCSD men’s golf coach, Mike Wydra, for a week of great golf instruction in one of the most beautiful places in the United States - La Jolla, California. Campers reside on campus at UCSD and travel a short distance to area golf courses each day for instruction and afternoon course play. In addition to having an incredible time, Coach Wydra and his staff are confident each and every golfer will show improvement during the course of the week. 

Exciting evening activities are planned for each night and include a camp barbecue, pizza night, Boomer’s Family Fun Center, bowling night, movie night,and a San Diego Padres baseball game (only available during session I, IV, VI).  Video analysis is provided and each camper takes home a personalized DVD and a Nike amenity package including a Nike hat, a dozen Nike golf balls, a camper workbook and much more!

Mike Wydra has one of the most accomplished golf resumes in all of San Diego County. Now in his 32nd year of coaching at UCSD, Wydra’s program has produced over 30 professionals and 54 All-Americans.His playing and coaching background includes:
  • Youngest ever Torrey Pines Club Champion  
  • San Diego County Open Champion (1980)  
  • Five wins on the Golden State Mini-Tour  
  • PGA Tour School Finalist (1980)  
  • 30 years as UCSD Head Men’s Coach  
  • Coached UCSD to 13 top five finishes and 3 runner-up finishes in NCAA Championship  
  • Coached UCSD to 1993 NCAA National Championship    
  • Western States NCAA Coach of the Year 11 consecutive years
GOLF FACILITIES - A TOUR OF SAN DIEGO GOLF!
 
The San Diego/La Jolla camp is unique in that participants get to play a wide variety of courses during their stay.   Practice and play takes place at several fantastic San Diego area golf courses.

In addition, each week of camp involves a special 18 hole outing at some of the finest golf facilities in San Diego.  The schedule is as follows:

Session I
(June 27 - July 2) Bonita Golf Club, Riverwalk Golf Club, The Vineyard, and Sail Ho Golf Course. Special outing at Encinitas Ranch Golf Course - 18 holes of championship golf in a unique setting carved from a magnificent sweep of bluffs overlooking the Pacific ocean. 
 
Session II (July 5 - 10) Bonita Golf Club, Woods Valley Golf Club, Salt Creek Golf Club, and Sail Ho Golf Course. Special outing at Riverwalk Golf Club - 27 hole facility with undulating fairways, waterfalls and bent grass greens.  Host facility for the 13-14 year old Junior World Championships.

Session III (July 18 - 23) Bonita Golf Club, Twin Oaks Golf Club, The Vineyard, Sail Ho Golf Course. Special outing at Barona Creek Golf Club - Host facility for 2008 Nationwide Tour Championship.  Rated #5 "Best Courses You Can Play in California" by Golfweek

Session IV (July 25 - 30) Bonita Golf Club, Riverwalk Golf Club, Woods Valley Golf Club, and Sail Ho Golf Course. Special outing at Maderas Golf Club - Rated as the #1 golf course in San Diego County on the Zagat Survey (2003-2007).  Annual host of AJGA event.

Session V
(August 1 - 6) Bonita Golf Club, Twin Oaks Golf Club, Woods Valley Golf Club, and Sail Ho Golf Course. Special outing at Morgan Run Club & Resort - Superbly-conditioned, private 27 hole facility in Rancho Sante Fe.  Site of annual Pro-Celebrity Classic
 
Session VI (August 8 - 13) Bonita Golf Club, Riverwalk Golf Club, Salt Creek Golf Club, and Sail Ho Golf Course. Special outing at The Crossings at Carlsbad - visually stunning new course located just one mile from the Pacific ocean.  Rated by Golf Magazine as one of the top ten "New  Courses You Can Play."

ACCOMMODATIONS
 

Campers live on the UCSD campus in the Thurgood Marshall College dormitories and enjoy all-you-can-eat dining in the cafeteria. Each six room suite consists of 2 triple rooms and 4 single rooms with a large bathroom. This means that each suite will house 10 campers. Campers enjoy access to a camp store, laundry facilities, ping pong table, and two video game units with 4-person gaming capability. UCSD is also located less than one mile from the beach!
 

CAMP SPECIFICS

Check-in will take place on the first day of camp at the ERC Student Activity Center on the UCSD campus from 1-2:30 pm.  Graudation will take place on the last day of camp at 1 pm followed by check out from 1:30-2pm.
 
The Overnight fee includes all golf instruction, green fees, evening activities, housing and all meals.  The Extended Day fee includes all of the above except housing and breakfast.  Extended Day campers may participate in the evening activities.

Campers arriving to San Diego International Aiport are to provide their own tranportation to and from the airport.  For shuttle information visit www.san.org.

Campers participating in two consecutive weeks of camp can stay over the weekend for a fee of $200.  That fee covers room & board and supervision.  Campers have an opportunity to relax or go to the beach (free) or they can choose to see some of the attactions San Diego has to offer (i.e. Sea World, The San Diego Zoo, etc.).  There are fees associated with any special trips.  Please inquire with the camp director during the first week of camp your child is attending.
