NIKE Baseball Camp at Greensboro College Greensboro, North Carolina
Nike Baseball Camps offer athletes a variety of options to choose from when considering the best possible location. Depending on the camp and its unique schedule, our campers can spend the entire week at one of our many locations nationwide.
Directing the camp is Head Coach, Matt Aker. Coach Aker begins his third year leading the baseball program at Greensboro College in 2011-12.
Highlights Include
- Professional instruction from college coachesand college-aged instructors
- Low camper/staff ratio
- Multi-level ability grouping
- Discussion topics: preparing for college baseball and personal goal setting
- Nike Camp T-shirt, Lanyard and Nike Prizes
The College is located on nearly 80 acres of tree-lined grounds in a historic district bordering the heart of the city of Greensboro. The convenient location provides easy access to major attractions, the cultural arts district, shopping and fine arts venues.
World War Memorial Stadium is the home baseball park for Greensboro College. The stadium was originally supposed to be U-shaped, but when it was completed in 1926, it more closely resembled a backward J. However, there was little else backward about it.
World War Memorial Stadium - dedicated as a living memorial to the 138 Guilford County men who died in World War 1 - has become an integral part of the city's landscape. In its heyday, the stadium next to Bagley Street in Greensboro, was the envy of every city in North Carolina. The 8,000 concrete cast seats provided a lavish home for professional and college baseball in the summer, high school and college football in the fall, and various levels of track and field in the spring.

Camp Director
Matt Aker
Prior to attaining the head coach position, Aker completed his sixth year in the 2009 season as a GC assistant coach. He has served as the hitting, outfield, and base-running coach for The Pride. The son of former major league pitcher and coach Jack Aker, he pitched at Ole Miss where he graduated in 1993.
As an assistant at GC, Aker has been part of much success. In 2006, The Pride reached the USA South championship game for the first time since 1998, and defeated eight ranked teams during the season. GC set a program record with seven all-conference honorees, including five first team selections.
Under his guidance, Pride hitters batted over .300 as a team for six consecutive seasons, while leading the USA South in at least one offensive category in each of those years. The Pride has led or come in second in 23 top offensive categories over the past four seasons.
While at Ole Miss, Aker was primarily a pitcher, but also saw time in the outfield, and at third base. Coach Aker was anassistant at Ole Miss in 1993 and a high school head coach at Magnolia Heights in Senatobia, MS, and Chaminade-Madonna in Hollywood, FL for ten seasons before coming to Greensboro.
Aker attended Palm Beach Community College for two of his college seasons. At PBCC, he was named Scholar Athlete of the Year, and made the Dean's List each semester. Aker earned all conference honors, and was picked to play in the Florida Junior College All Star Game.
As a head coach, Aker's high school teams won seven consecutive conference titles, and he was named Coach of theYear for six consecutive years. Aker coached the North State All Star team twice while in Mississippi, and has had numerous players go on to college baseball careers, three of whom were taken in the Major League Baseball Players Draft. Aker also served as an assistant varsity football coach.
