Nike Baseball Camps offer athletes a variety of options to choose from when considering the best possible location. Depending on the camp and its unique schedule, our campers can spend the entire week at one of our many locations nationwide.

Justin James returns to his alma mater as an assistant coach for the 2012 season. His main duties are to help in recruiting, camp coordination and assisting in opponent scouting.

Highlights Include

  • Professional instruction from college coaches and college-aged instructors
  • Low camper to instructor ratios
  • Multi-level ability grouping
  • Nike Camp T-shirt and Nike Prizes

The Point Loma athletic facilities are one of the most scenic in the nation. Set in a natural bowl, seating is available on the south side of the complex at field level and twenty feet above the pitch on another set of bleachers just above. The "loge" level seats offer a stunning look at the Pacific Ocean, with La Jolla in view to the north on a clear day.

Camp Director

Justin James

James spent the two prior seasons assisting the New Mexico Highlands University baseball team under head coach Steve Jones. During that span the Cowboys won 70 games, twice reached the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) tournament championship game and qualified for the NCAA Division II Western regionals in 2009.

In addition to his coaching duties at NMHU, James was the strength and conditioning coach for the university's athletic teams and was in charge of game management, which included setting up every home sporting event up to NCAA standards and RMAC regulations. He also ran the school's intramural program.

Coach

Joe Schaefer

Joe Schaefer enters into his eighth season as a member of the PLNU baseball staff, his third year as head coach. The first two years under Schaefer have been arguably the best campaigns in Point Loma baseball history.

Last year, 2010, saw the Sea Lions post a 40-20-1 overall record. The team’s conference mark was 22-14, good for a third-place tie. PLNU lost to Cal Baptist in the GSAC tournament but with a No. 17 ranking earned the team a NAIA Opening Round berth. The Green and Gold rolled to the championship of their bracket to punch their ticket to Lewiston, Idaho, for a chance to compete in the NAIA World Series. PLNU put together a superb showing with a third-place finish.

His first campaign at the helm, 2009, was the most successful in the long history of the university's baseball program. The Sea Lions had a tremendous regular season and went on to win the Golden State Athletic Conference (GSAC) regular season and tournament championships. The team then swept through three Opening Round games of the NAIA World Series to reach the final site of competition in Lewiston, Idaho. PLNU stayed red-hot, rolling off four consecutive wins at the NAIA World Series and was one triumph away from a national title, but lost twice to Lubbock Christian. PLNU's runner up finish, however, was the highest ever for the program and is the best that a GSAC squad has done in World Series play.

Quality Individual Instruction

"I was impressed that the coaches worked with us individually. At other camps it was almost always as a group. They covered everything about baseball and even introduced me to some new strength training exercises. I enjoyed the camp very much and enjoyed some of the actual players speaking and teaching us.
