“I’ve always felt the game rises from the bottom up,’’ said Randy Livingston, the former LSU Tiger and 10-year NBA veteran who now oversees LivOn, a worldwide basketball enterprise headquartered in Hobart, Australia.
Livon is an umbrella conglomerate overseeing several entities of the sport, including coaching and scouting.
“The whole idea,’’ Livingston said, “is to lift the game, and the better coaching we can develop on lower levels, the better the player later. We think it’s a win-win concept for the game of basketball.’’
Scott and business partners Hilton McManus and Randall Stewart co-founded the Back to Basics Basketball Academy.
Scott said he wants to show kids they can achieve their dreams.
"The only way I could show these kids what I want, is to open my own gym, he said.
McManus said boys and girls young and old are all working to help make dreams come true.
"Everyone is positive, talking and helping each other" McManus said. "The goal is to get these kids confidence not just in basketball but in life"
The positive attitudes come from children as young as 4 years old, and up to those preparing to head off to college.
Future University of Texas point guard Javan Felix said he consistently follows his practices at St. Augustine High School with a workout at Back to Basics.
"It's always open to us, anytime we want to come,? he said. "They have NBA goals, lines, regulation courts -- anything you could look for in a gym."
Former New Orleans Hornet, Carlos Wheeler is a coach at the academy and helps the eager players reach their goals by utilizing his experience.
