She has compiled a 53-57 and has led the team to four consecutive Northeast-10 Conference Tournament appearances. In 2013, the Panthers finished with an 11-9 overall record and earned the program's second first-round home playoff game for the Northeast-10 Tournament title. They defeated Bentley in the first-round, on an overtime goal by Molly Cuevas to advance to the NE-10 semifinals. After suffering a 5-0 loss to the eventual 2013 NCAA National Champions of LIU Post, Coach O’Connor had several players earn post-season accolades. The squad saw three players named to NE-10 All-Conference teams, three earned Fall Academic All-Conference and the team took home the NFHCA Division II National Academic Team Award as well as the NE-10 Team Academic Excellence award with a 3.384 GPA. She also had one NFHCA second-team All-American in 2013.

In 2012, the Panthers earned the fourth seed for the NE-10 tournament and hosted their first-ever playoff game. They continued on to the semi-final where they suffered a 6-0 loss to Merrimack College. Head Coach O’Connor led the team to an 8-12 record and a 6-4 mark in conference play. Adelphi had a Rookie of the Year for the conference as well as 13 girls named to the NFHCA National Academic Squad. The team also held the title of NCAA Statistical Champion for defensive saves in 2012.

In her first four years at the helm of the Adelphi University field hockey program, Gloria O’Connor led the Brown and Gold to two Northeast-10 Conference Tournament appearances, had three players named All-American and eight named to NE-10 All-Conference teams, all while compiling a 34-36 record. In 2011, the Panthers narrowly missed the playoffs for the first time since joining the NE-10 with an overall record of 6-12 and 3-7 mark in league play.

After leading the Panthers to the NE-10 Tournament in 2009, O'Connor had the Panthers right back in postseason play in 2010. Adelphi finished 6-4 in the conference and 13-9 overall and entered the tournament as the fifth seed. O'Connor's Panthers defeated fourth-seeded Southern Connecticut State University in the quarterfinals to advance to the next round. The Panthers came up short against the eventual National Champions UMass Lowell, 4-2. Adelphi was the only team to score two goals on Lowell all season. O'Connor had three players receive All-Conference honors and two receive NFHCA All-American honors as well.

In her second year at the helm of the Panthers, Coach O'Connor guided the Panthers to a 12-8 overall record and a 7-3 mark in their first year in the strong Northeast-10 Conference. The Panthers also reached the Northeast-10 Conference Tournament where they came up short against eighth-ranked Merrimack College, 2-1. Adelphi had three girls receive All-Northeast-10 honors, three receive ECAC honors (Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year), 11 receiving National Academic Honors, and one NFHCA second-team All-American.

The 2008 season mark the return of field hockey as a varsity sport after a 25-year hiatus. O’Connor guided her squad to a 3-7 season as an independent in its inaugural campaign. The team netted 21 goals and posted a 2.10 goal/game average. O’Connor’s team earned NFHCA Academic recognition as well as having 13 players garnering individual honors.

Former Adelphi University Athletic Director Robert E. Hartwell announced O’Connor’s hiring as head field hockey coach on July 21, 2008. She came to Adelphi with a combined 14 years of coaching experience at the high school and collegiate level. From 1989 through 1992, she was the head coach of the C.W. Post field hockey program and gained another 10 years of experience at Carle Place High School.

At the high school level, O’Connor achieved unparalleled success, posting a record of 146-18-21 that included nine league championships. She is also a member of the Long Island Field Hockey Coaches Hall of Fame (1990) and Carle Place High School Hall of Fame as both a player and a coach.

In addition, she has been involved in the Empire State Games over the years, first as the head coach of the Long Island scholastic field hockey team and then as the Long Island coordinator. O’Connor also coached varsity lacrosse at Carle Place, capturing five New York state titles and is also a member of the New York Metropolitan and Long Island Lacrosse Hall of Fame (2006). In addition, she has been honored with the Hofstra University Outstanding Contributions to High School Girls’ Athletics award and was a National High school Coach of the Year nominee in 1988.

A long time teacher and administrator, O’Connor is no stranger to Long Island schools, having spent time as a special education teacher at John Adams High School, an Athletic Director at Sewanhaka High School, an Assistant Principal and Principal at Floral Park Memorial Jr. Sr. High School and most recently as superintendent for Personnel and Administration for the Sewanhaka High School District.

Learn new skills

I would recommend Nike Camp to others because it is a great experience to be able to play on a college turf field with college players and coaches. By going to Nike FH Camp, you learn a lot more about the sport and leave camp with information you can share with others.

Great quality camp

My daughter attended the Nike Field Hockey Camp at Adelphi and absolutely loved it. She plays soccer and basketball and has attended other local camps but simply felt that this was the greatest. Couldn't wait to go back every day and is looking forward to next year's camp. She was a total beginner and spoke highly of the attention and instruction that the staff provided. Camper and Parents of Camper extremely happy about the quality of this camp

Very impressed

My daughter was very impressed with the coaching staff and how they took a personal interest in each player. They gave the kids plenty of breaks (it was hot) and were not too intense. My daughter came back to the camp a second time this year. She was very inspired by the coaches last year and participated in the futures program through the winter. We will definitely be back next year!

Top Notch Camp!

“My daughter loved this camp it was very hands on and personal. I took my daughter to a much bigger division 1 camp and she like this camp so much more because at the Nike camp she met all the coaches and the coaches knew her name. She learned so much more at the Nike camp. My daughter and I would highly recommend this camp to any field hockey player.”

Great learning environment

If you love field hockey and you want to get better this is definitely the camp to go to. Everybody wants you to improve and to have fun while you do so. You learn so much in just 4 days. What ever you need help with, the instructor will help you and by the end of the week you will be much better at that skill.

Futures tryouts

They provide a lot of good instruction, and incorporate fun into practice. I loved the tournament at the end and my counselor. I also liked all the non-skill oriented contests and that they provided outside opportunities (AKA Futures tryouts)

Professional

My daugher appreciated the professionalism and specific suggestions for how to improve her game. As her mom, I was very pleased how smoothly I was able to drop off her Epi-Pen for her peanut allergy. Also, it was fun for my daughter and her friends -- a great experience.

Best sports camp

This is the best sports camp in general I have been to. I was hesitant about going at first because I didn't know anyone who was going and I wasn't from the area, but I turned out to make a lot of friends there, and the group they assign you into becomes really close even though you only meet for four days. My skills also improved so much! People have asked me on my school team how I am I so much better since last year and I honestly think it's from these four days!
