Rutgers University Golf Course is one of the most popular public courses in New Jersey and it's a mere half mile from the suites where Nike campers are housed. Our experienced staff, led by Rutgers Head Coach Maura Ballard, looks forward to helping each camper become a better golfer!

Rutgers University Golf Course
The Rutgers University Golf Course was established in 1963 and plays to 6,400 yards from the back tees. Regarded as one of the most popular public courses in NJ, the course annually hosts the Rutgers University Men’s and Women’s Golf Invitational. In addition to the course, Rutgers has a newer 36 stall driving range, short game pitching and chipping area and practice putting green. A full-scale snack bar is available to the campers at all times and the pro shop is well stocked with golf accessories and Scarlet Knights memorabilia.

Camp Director
Maura Ballard
Maura Waters-Ballard is in her 19th season mentoring the Rutgers University golf programs. After serving as head coach for both the men’s and women’s teams, she transitioned to the role of Director of Golf/Women’s Golf Coach prior to the 2009-10 academic year. In her new capacity, she oversees the operations and recruitment for both teams, while shifting her competition focus to the women’s squad.
Read Full BioA former “Futures Tour” player, Waters-Ballard had quite an extensive competitive golf career. She was runner-up in the 2009 New Jersey State Women’s Amateur Championship to Sherry Herman, who won the 2009 U.S. Senior Women’s Championship. In 2008, Waters-Ballard won the Garden State Pinehurst Championship with partner Ann Probert. She also won the 1992 New Jersey State Amateur Championship, the 1991 WMGA Better Ball with partner Mary Eichhorn, and the 1988 Garden State Stroke Play Championship. As a Scarlet Knight golfer, she won the 1986 Yale Invitational, and had several other top-three finishes while earning MVP honors all four years. In 1994, Ballard was inducted into the Somerville (NJ) High School Athletic Hall of Fame for her accomplishments in tennis, basketball and golf.
Our Nike camp staff consists of Division I college coaches, PGA professionals and current/former college players who serve as camp counselors.
Nike Golf Schools & Junior Camps at Rutgers University offer each junior golfer the same opportunity to succeed, regardless of their starting point. Coach Ballard and her staff offer a positive and fun learning environment, one in which campers can thrive under the direction of motivated and highly skilled instructors.
Upon arrival, all participants are evaluated by the staff so that their own instructional needs can be addressed throughout the week.
Sample Daily Schedule
- 7:30am Wake-up
- 8:00-8:30am Breakfast
- 8:45am Short ride to driving range and practice facility
- 9:00am-Noon Instruction stations -- campers rotate between putting, chipping, pitching, bunker and full swing practice
- Noon-12:45 Lunch
- 1:00-5:00pm Course play with staff focusing on all facets of the game -- strategy, shot/club selection, rules and etiquette
- 6:00-7:00pm Dinner
- 7:30-9:30pm Evening activities
- 10:30pm Lights out
- Campers are housed in three-room, six-person, air-conditioned suites on the Busch Campus of Rutgers University.
- The Overnight fee includes all golf instruction, green fees, evening activities, housing and all meals.
- The Extended Day fee includes all of the above except housing and breakfast. Extended Day campers may participate in the evening activities which will include recreational sports, movies, and more.
- Overnight campers will check-in at the Busch Campus Suites from 2:30 - 3:30 pm on Sunday. The graduation ceremony will take place on Thursday at 3:45 pm, parents are encouraged to attend. Departure will follow from 4:00-5:00 pm. Linens are NOT provided, campers must bring their own sheets, blankets, pillows and towels.
- Campers that arrive at Newark International Airport are to secure their own transportation to and from camp. The preferred arrival time is between 10:00 am - 1:00 pm. The preferred departure is from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
- Campers are supervised 24 hours a day. The staff lives in the dormitories/resort accommodations with the campers and participates in evening activities. Drugs, alcohol and tobacco are strictly prohibited, and constitute, along with general misconduct, grounds for dismissal from camp without a refund.
- A detailed camper registration packet containing check in location, health/release forms, emergency contact info, and a list of things to bring will be emailed to all registered campers in the Spring.
