Get ready for an amazing experience in Storrs, CT! US Sports is thrilled to announce the return of our golf camp program to University of Connecticut. Join UConn Head Coach, Dave Pezzino, for an incredible junior golf experience and top-notch golf facilities across the state.

The overnight camp includes golf instruction, course play, meals, housing and a curriculum structured for intermediate/advanced players with previous golf experience. Players stay overnight in the dormitories at the University of Connecticut and travel to Mohegan Sun Golf Club (Week 1) or Ellington Ridge Country Club (Week 2) for daily instruction and play. Coach Pezzino is looking forward to a fun-filled week of instruction where campers can learn what it takes to bring their skills to the next level.

This camp is open to any and all entrants (limited only by number, age, grade level, and/or gender).

    Dave Pezzino is the head coach of the men’s golf team at the University of Connecticut. He was named to the position on August 24, 2007.

    Dan Wesley is the head men's golf coach at University of Rochester. Dan has also directed Nike Junior Golf Camps in Rochester, NY in previous years and serves as co-camp coordinator for the Nike Short Game Camps.

Camp Details

This program is designed for boys and girls between the ages of 12 and 18. Whether you are a beginner, intermediate or advanced level golfer, our world-class instruction and coaching provides junior golfers with the necessary skills to compete and win. These camps offer training and real competition scenarios that develop every part of your game. During the week, campers work on short game, putting, approach shots, course management, and will test their new skills in weekly competitions and 18-hole tournaments. Upon arrival, all participants are evaluated by the staff so that their own instructional needs can be addressed throughout the week.

2024 OVERVIEW

    • June 23-27
      • Overnight: Sunday - Thursday
    • July 21-24
      • Overnight: Sunday - Wednesday
  • Check-In: Registration for all campers occurs on Sunday from 2:00-2:30pm at the University of Connecticut on campus. There will be a campus tour immediately after check-in, campers will then be bussed to the golf course in the afternoon.
  • Check-out: Camp graduation is at 12:30pm on Thursday for Session 1 and Wednesday for Session 2. Campers depart following the graduation ceremony at 1:00pm. Parents are encouraged to attend the graduation.
  • Meals: Overnight campers will receive all meals during camp (breakfast, lunch, dinner).
  • Program: The Intermediate/Advanced Camp is designed for players with previous golf experience and/or for the high-school or tournament-level player looking for a competitive experience. All aspects of the game are addressed and there is a strong emphasis on tournament preparation, course management, mental toughness and scoring improvements.

WHAT'S INCLUDED IN THE FEE?

  • Instruction: Morning instruction and afternoon course play at a rotation of golf courses.
  • Meals: Overnight campers will receive all meals during camp (breakfast, lunch, dinner).
  • Supervision: Campers are under staff supervision at all times as staff members live in adjacent rooms to overnight campers. Drugs, alcohol and tobacco are strictly prohibited, and constitute, along with general misconduct, grounds for dismissal from camp without a refund.
  • Camper Amenity Package: Campers will receive an amenity package including a Nike hat, drawstring bag, SRIXON golf balls, camp workbook, and graduation certificate.

INSTRUCTION, EQUIPMENT & FACILITY

  • Ratio: 1:8 staff-to-camper ratio.
  • Groupings: Campers are grouped by age, ability, and experience.
  • Equipment Needed: Players should supply their own golf clubs, glove, golf balls, and tees.
  • Facilities:
    • Week 1: Mohegan Sun Golf Club
    • Week 2: Ellington Ridge Country Club
  • Medical Protocol: Camp will have on-site staff to help with illness or injury. In case of an emergency, campers will be transported to the nearest hospital.
  • Housing:
    • Dorm: UCONN
    • Campers Per Room: Campers will be housed in double rooms.
    • Roommates: Rooms are assigned by age & roommate requests. Roommate requests must be received no later than 14 days before the start of camp. If you don't have a roommate request, you will be placed in a room with someone near your age. It will be a great opportunity to meet someone new!
    • Linens: Included.
    • Air Conditioning: Air-conditioning TBD.
    • Key Deposit: Please bring a check for $100 for room key deposit and $4 for the meal/access card, made payable to “US Sports Camps”. Check will be returned after the key card is turned in on the last day of camp.
    • Spending Money: We recommend that each overnight camper bring $60-75 per week of spending money to cover incidentals like snacks, souvenirs and other activities. Please bring cash in a marked envelope for your child.

*Staff members reside in campers’ quarters and participate in all activities.

Below is a suggested list of clothes, equipment, and personal items. US Sports Camps, The University of Connecticut and the golf facilities being used are NOT responsible for lost or stolen articles or money.

  • 5-6 collared shirts (recommended)
  • 4-6 golf appropriate shorts/pants
  • 6-8 pairs of socks

  • Sweatshirt/warm up jacket and pants
  • Raingear and/or umbrella
  • Toilet/personal items
  • Insect repellent
  • Laundry bag
  • Water bottle*
  • Sunscreen**
  • Hat/visor (Campers receive Nike hat with amenity package)
  • Snacks (optional)
  • Small fan for dorm room (no A/C in rooms)
  • COVID PPE (as required by state/local guidelines)
  • Signed Health & Release forms and waivers (forms completed online do not need to be printed and turned in at camp)

TRANSPORTATION

Nike Junior Golf Camps does not provide ground transportation from airports, train stations or bus stations. Parents/guardians are fully responsible for getting campers to and from camp check-in/out. If you have a child flying to camp, please visit the Bradley International Airport website for information on ground service (www.bradleyairport.com). During the week, campers are transported to Ellington Ridge Country Club via private bus transportation.

Sample Daily Schedule

  • 7:00am Wake-up, Breakfast
  • 8:00am Camp meeting at practice facility, skill demonstrations from staff focusing on key elements of the swing for that day
  • 8:30am Instruction - campers rotate through stations working on putting, chipping, pitching, bunker play and the full swing
  • Noon Lunch
  • 1:00pm Course play with staff focusing on strategy, shot selection, course management, rules and etiquette
  • 5:00pm Depart back to campus
  • 6:00pm Dinner, free time, camp discussion sessions
  • 10:00pm Lights out

Ellington Ridge Country Club

Established in 1959, Ellington Ridge Country Club is an 18 hole championship golf course designed by noted golf architect, Geoffrey Cornish. Not far from Ellington, Ellington Ridge Country Club offers terrific views and challenging play for golfers at every skill level. Well-groomed fairways and greens keep Ellington Ridge Country Club difficult yet friendly, and the staff can offer tips and tricks for playing your best round. Ellington Ridge Country Club is a terrific choice for your regular rounds of golf or a new destination for you and friends when visiting Ellington.

Mohegan Sun Golf Club

Mohegan Sun Golf Club is recognized as one of the finest golf experiences in the region. Originally designed by legendary golf course architect Geoffrey Cornish, the championship Par 72 golf course features a challenging design that accommodates all levels of play. We take tremendous pride in maintaining great course conditions amongst the natural beauty and contrast of emerald green fairways, native fescues and the ever-changing colors of the four seasons.
