Come join experienced teaching professional, Brad Neher, for a week of golf camp in Colorado in a fun and positive learning environment. Coach Neher is in his 14th year of directing Nike Golf Camps and looks forward to another fantastic summer in Colorado.

CommonGround Golf Course will play host to a Full-Day Nike Golf Camp program in 2013. The camp runs Monday - Thursday, from 9:00am - 3:00pm, and is for golfers of all ability levels (ages 9 - 16). Campers will enjoy three hours of range instruction in the morning, followed by a complimentary lunch and course play in the afternoon.

The CommonGround Golf Course is affiliated with the Colorado Golf Association and was one of the courses used for the 2012 US Amateur Championship. It is truly a phenomenal golf facility and will prove to be the perfect environment for a Nike Golf Camp.

Camp Director

Brad Neher

Brad has been directing Nike Golf Camps in Boulder, CO since 1999. He is the former assistant coach of the University of Colorado men's golf team and served as the head coach during the 2005-2006 season. An honorable mention U.S. Kids “Top 50” Junior Instructor of America, he was the CEO/Founder of ACE (Access, Competition & Etiquette) Golf Foundation which he formed in 1998, running the organization until it merged with the Gold Crown Junior Golf Association in 2003.

From 1999-2006, he created concepts and fulfilled fundraising efforts to build the Gold Crown Junior Learning Center.  In that role, he developed all GCJGA instruction programs that served the youth of Metro Denver, including clinics for the Boy’s & Girl’s Clubs of Metro Denver.  He has worked as a GCJGA Director of Instruction for the past eight years (2003-11).

Brad has two professional wins, the 1999 U.S. Open Local Qualifying & 2008 Continental Airlines Pro-Am.  He was a varsity letter winner for the nationally ranked CU golf team in 1992-93 and 1993-94.  Neher qualified for the 1992 U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship, was a Colorado Cup Team member, and captured six amateur titles in all.

Brad places an emphasis on the “FUNdamentals” of the game and believes that fun golf depends on personal successes and improvement.  He is currently working on his first golf book, Simple 7!

Coach

Ben Portie

Ben is currently the assistant men's and women's golf coach for the University of Northern Colorado. He has assisted Brad with the Nike Jr. Golf Camps at Boulder since 1999. Prior to his coaching duties at Northern Colorado, Ben was the assistant coach at University of Colorado ('07 - '08) and has taught at various golf clubs since the late '90s.

As a player, Portie holds the title of 2011 South Dakota Open Champion as well as the 2011 Colorado Open Champion. He has qualified for a number of PGA and Nationwide Tour events, including the US Open, US Amatuer and US Publinks Championship. Ben brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience to the Nike Golf Camps and he looks forward to helping junior golfers improve their games this summer.

Coach

Brett Dean

Brett is one of the most talented golfers to come out of the state of Colorado. He attended Arizona State University, where he was a two-time All-American and played with the likes of Billy Mayfair and Phil Mickelson. After several years on various mini-tours, Brett got into the coaching side of golf and has been passionate about instilling his knowledge into junior golfers ever since.

CommonGround Golf Course

Through the use of “width that matters” and strategic placement of features, this Tom Doak design delivers an outstanding experience to all levels of golfers. From the raw beginner, to the most skilled player, CommonGround Golf Course has been designed to maximize the enjoyment of the game for everyone. Although located in the heart of the city, the urban sprawl surrounding the course is unnoticeable, and the breathtaking views of the majestic front range of Colorado are a site to behold.

Upon arrival, all participants are evaluated by the staff so that their own instructional needs can be addressed throughout the week.

Sample Daily Schedule

  • 8:45am Campers arrive
  • 9:00am Instruction - practice skills and fundamentals; grip, stance, posture, pitching, chipping, putting and full swing
  • Noon Lunch/relaxation
  • 1:00pm Course play with the staff. Emphasis on shot selection, strategy, rules, and etiquette
  • 3:00pm Campers depart

A detailed camper registration packet containing check-in location, health/release forms, emergency contact info, and a list of things to bring will be emailed to all registered campers in the spring.
