The language program is being offered in partnership with ELS Language Centers, a leading language program in the US. Campers will stay with an American family for one or two weeks prior to their camp session and attend language classes operated by ELS in downtown Santa Cruz. At the conclusion of their language week(s), campers will check-into the NIKE Golf Camp facility at Robert Louis Stevenson School, ready to begin their NIKE Golf Camp with confidence.

Each day, our staff provides campers with three hours of expert instruction at the beautiful Rancho Canada Golf Course located in the heart of the fabled Monterey Peninsula. Campers can take full advantage of the course's 36 Championship holes and premier practice facilities to improve their golf skills. In addition to the daily instruction, Nike Golf campers travel to nearby golf courses with the staff where they can take their newly acquired skills to the links.
Poppy Hills is a challenging golf course that weaves through the Del Monte Forest. The Zagat Survey ranked Poppy Hills the 12th “Most Popular Course” in the U.S, and the layout has been named “National Course of the Year” by the National Golf Course Owners Association.
Opened in 1897, Del Monte Golf Course is the oldest course in continuous operation west of the Mississippi. Designed by golf and polo enthusiast Charles Maud, this inland course boasts a meandering layout that has challenged golfers for more than a century.
Robert Louis Stevenson School
Campers are housed at the prestigious Robert Louis Stevenson School, located in Pebble Beach, California. RLS is a beautiful College Prep School. The dorms are nestled in the Del Monte Forest a quarter of a mile down the road from the first tee at Pebble Beach Golf Links and just steps from the eighteenth tee at Spyglass Golf Links. Jeff Ritter is one of the world's most prominent golf instructors with a presence that reaches all corners of the globe. Hailed for his unique approach to coaching, Jeff’s method of communication utilizes creative concepts from all walks of life in a manner that inspires his students and makes this difficult game seem effortless. He credits his passion for: inspiration, body health and “mental flexibility” for the reputation that has set him apart as a purveyor of not only playing well, but living well.
A consistent presence in the world of golf media, Jeff’s articles appear in Golf Digest Magazine, Golf Tips Magazine,Golf Infuzion Magazine, Golf Punk Magazine in the United Kingdom, The A Position and the Arizona Republic. He has also been seen and heard on ESPN, FOX Sports, FOX Sports Radio, Sirius XM Radio and The Golf Channel. Before striking out on his own in 2000, Jeff was formerly an instructor with the Golf Digest Schools and the acclaimed Dave Pelz Short Game School. In addition, he has found success with players ranging from new golfers, top amateurs, and collegiate standouts as well as players from the PGA and LPGA Tours. In addition to acting as Nike Golf Schools & Junior Camps National Director of Instruction, Jeff also runs programs throughout the year from his Jeff Ritter Golf Academy located at The Raven Golf Club - Phoenix.

Respected for his dedication to the development of young competitive players, Aaron has been an integral component to the success of Junior and High School golf programs across the country. Due to his commitment to Juniors, Aaron was awarded the position of Assistant Camp Director for Nike Junior Golf Monterey Peninsula.
Prior to joining the Nike Camp Staff, Aaron had spent years honing his skills with the help of some of the game’s top coaches, most notably being strongly influenced by PGA Tour Instructors Andy Plummer and Mike Bennett. A dedicated player himself, Aaron has enjoyed success competing both on the collegiate and professional levels and finds that his experiences in competition form some of the greatest lessons he imparts to his students.
Dennis Sales is one of the Nation's most respected teachers, recently being named the #1 coach in New England by New England Golf Monthly Magazine! Due to his passion for junior player development, Dennis was highly sought after as a key component to the Nike Camp team. His years of running highly successful junior programs in New England along with his many certifications with the Titleist Performance Institute in youth fitness, learning and development provides campers with the tools to succeed on every level.
During the winter months, Dennis is an educational "road warrior" consistently traveling to workshops and seminars across country in pursuit of the most cutting edge modalities to enhance his coaching acumen. A favorite spot of influence has been spending time with the Mike Bender Golf Academy, shadowing 2006 LPGA National Teacher of the Year Cheryl Anderson and 2009 National PGA Teacher of the Year Mike Bender whose stable of students includes Masters Champion Zach Johnson.
Zach Baron is one of the bright young minds in golf instruction. Educated through the PGA of America's Professional Golf Management Program at Coastal Carolina University, he has built a program that inspires players of all levels. A dedicated student of the game, Zach has spent time learning from some of the top instructors in the world, most recently as a staff member at Hank Haney's International Junior Academy in Hilton Head South Carolina. By creating a personal plan which integrates all levels of human performance, Zach's curriculum quickly enhances your learning curve and reveals your maximum potential as a golfer. We're excited to have Zach as part of our distinguished staff and know his valuable insights will provide inspiration for all campers.
Susana Contreras Saenz
Susana Contreras Saenz is among the brightest young coaches in the game. A graduate of Nike Junior Golf Camps, Monterey in 2000 and former top junior player, Susana is dedicated to sharing her wealth of experience as a competitor and teacher to the next generation of aspiring golfers. As a highly ranked player in her native Mexico, she won 15 events on the Mexican Junior Tour, along with claiming second place in the 2006 Latin American Open. Her strong play took her to America where she spent two years honing her skills at the acclaimed David Leadbetter Academy in Orlando Florida. Since her competitive days, Susana has been a staunch student of the game now blazing a career path in the world of coaching. Her good nature, attention to detail and first hand knowledge of what it takes to be great, make Susana the perfect asset to our stellar Nike Junior Golf Camp Staff!
Neely Robertson has a passion for encouraging students to improve in every aspect of their game. Based in Phoenix, Arizona Neely brings to the Nike Junior Golf Camps a wealth of knowledge as a competitive player and coach. Since his playing days, he has dedicated himself fully to the art of teaching, learning from some of the top names in the business, including the 2011 National PGA Teacher of the Year, Mike Malaska. A favorite amongst his junior players, his philosophy focuses on helping kids systematically reach their personal goals, while inspiring possibility as to the true potential that exists within them.
Andy Griffiths joins the Nike Golf Schools and Junior Camp staff traveling all the way from Birmingham, England. His education includes coaching certifications with the PGA as well as a degree in Applied Golf Management Studies at the University of Birmingham England. His unique expertise lies in developing players through golf fitness and the use of biomechanics to fully analyze movement patterns to ascertain how to most efficiently enhance performance. In addition to Andy's formal education, he has spent time coaching with the Evian Masters Academy in France as well as assisting Golf Digest "Top 4 Greatest Teacher" Jim Mclean, with instructional programs at the Doral Golf Resort in Miami, Florida.
Nike Junior Golf Camps, Monterey is proud to showcase heath and nutritional coaching from top nutritionist Cate Munroe. The “go to” girl for for some of the world’s top publications, Cate’s road to nutrition was literally born on the links. A top ranked Northern California Junior and standout collegiate athlete, Cate speaks the player’s language, clearly understanding the demands and rigors of tournament golf. Her passion for the game was the catalyst behind creating special programs dedicated to competitive players to better achieve their personal and professional performance goals.
Still an avid golfer, Cate’s golf-based nutrition tips have appeared in Golf Digest Woman, Golf Infuzion Magazine, Golf Tips Magazine, GolfPunk Magazine, the 19th Hole Magazine, The Arizona Republic as well as ABC TV. Cate's invaluable contribution to the Nike Junior Golf Camp experience serves to inspire kids in the simple ideas and principles behind living and playing your best for a lifetime! Cate is especially excited to be joining us this summer as she has fond memories a Pebble Beach. In fact, if you make your way to the Pebble Beach clubhouse you'll find her name on a perpetual trophy for her participation in the 1999 Tournament of Champions conducted by the Junior Golf Association of Northern California!
Overview of Sport + Language Program
This year, we are offering international golf campers the opportunity to add a one or two week language program prior to the start of their NIKE Golf Camp. This program is designed for kids aged 14-18 of all abilities. Campers will initially stay with an American host family for the language portion of the program and check-in to the NIKE Golf Camp the Sunday following the conclusion of their language session. The language program will be provided by ELS at their learning lab in downtown Santa Cruz.
There will be three different programs to choose from (session dates at bottom of page):
- Two-week program: One week of language classes, followed by one week of NIKE Golf Camp.
- Three-week program: Two weeks of language classes, followed by one week of NIKE Golf Camp.
- Four-week program: Two weeks of language classes, followed by two weeks of NIKE Golf Camp.
All session costs include language instruction and material fees, NIKE Golf Camp instruction, housing, meals, weekend stayover costs, and roundtrip airport transfers.
How does the program work?
Language: Campers generally arrive on Sunday and are greeted at the airport by ELS staff and introduced to their host family. On Monday morning, ELS staff will test campers in their English proficiency and put them in the proper language program. Classes are held in the morning Monday through Friday from 8:30am -12:30pm. The language program will be provided by ELS at their learning lab in downtown Santa Cruz. Campers can engage in additional activities after the language sessions, including additional language labs, or fun activities with the ELS staff which encourages campers to practice their English. - Course Curriculum: Instruction will be provided by ELS, a leader in international education. Students in this program will improve all core English skills: speaking, listening, reading, writing and grammar. Classes are communicative in nature and offer planty of opportunities for speaking practice. 15 sessions per week - 3 per day at 50 minutes each (8:30 am - 12:30 pm).
NIKE Golf Camps: NIKE Golf Camp check-in is between 1:00-2:30 pm at the Robert Louis Stevenson School. With the help of camp staff, campers will receive their dorm and roomate assignments and will head off to the practice range. Campers will be evaluated by camp staff and put into skill groups based on age/ability. The first golf session will begin at 4:00pm on Sunday. Each session will include 30 hours of instruction and conclude with a graduation ceremony on the last day (Friday) at 12:30pm. Campers staying for multiple sessions will be supervised by camp staff over the weekend and will enjoy fun activities in Carmel and on the Monterey Peninsula. A sample daily schedule follows below.

- 8:30am Skills Training- campers spend one hour at three different stations, putting & chipping, pitching & bunker, and full swing
- 12:00 noon Lunch at course
- 12:45pm Course play which includes instruction on course management, strategy, rules and etiquette
- 6:00pm Dinner at Robert Louis Stevenson
- 6:30pm Evening Activities (Two-club camp tournament, trip to downtown Carmel, beach excursion, tour of Pebble Beach Golf Links and much more!)
- 10:00pm Lights out!
Check-In: Sunday at the Robert Louis Stevenson school from 1:00pm-2:30pm.
Check-Out: Friday at Atwood Dorm at 1:00pm following a brief graduation ceremony.
All-inclusive tuition: Covers language instruction and materials, golf instruction and green fees, housing, meals, weekend stayover(s), activities, and roundtrip airport transfers.
- All international campers will be met at San Jose International Airport by camp staff, and will be escorted to their departing flight at the conclusion of their session. This is included in tuition.
- To schedule your pick-up, please complete a travel form which will be included in your registration packet. International campers must complete a travel form in order to guarantee pick up at the airport. Travel forms can also be accessed at www.mycamps.ussportscamps.com using your registered email.
- Designated Airport: San Jose International Airport (SJC)
- Early arrivals & late departures: There is a $125 fee per day to accomodate campers arriving early or staying beyond the final day of their registered session. This fee includes housing and meals. Please note that our camp staff cannot receive early campers prior to Sunday, June 23 (the first day of our first session), nor may campers stay past Friday, August 16 (the final day of our last session).
Registration Packet: A detailed camper registration packet containing check in location, health/release forms, emergency contact info, and a list of things to bring will be emailed to all registered campers in the Spring. Our health and release forms do not require a doctor's signature and they will be collected on the first day of camp. International camper must have health insurance valid in the US in order to attend camps. We suggest purchasing a supplemental health insurance program prior to coming to camp.
- Safety: 24-hour supervision is an important feature of every NIKE Golf Camp. Staff members reside in campers’ quarters and participate in all activities.
- Instruction: 6:1 camper to coach ratio.
- Recommended Spending Money: $50-100 per week
- Housing: Homestay with an American family during the language portion. Traditional dorms on campus. Genders separated by floor.
