Getting to Know: Kyle Schwan, GameReady Inc.

Kyle Schwan Game Ready Gtk

Kyle Schwan, Owner of GameReady Inc Training and Lead Skill Instructor for the PowerHouse Hoops Academy in Arizona, enters his first summer as camp director for the Nike Boys Basketball Camp at Red Mountain High School in Mesa, AZ. Kyle has played collegiately for legendary Coach Don Meyer (925 wins) where he moved on to spend 5 post-college seasons as a member of 3 different D1 programs (Northern Illinois, Arizona State, and Santa Clara). Kyle then left college coaching behind to pursue a career in basketball development here in Arizona. He works with athletes of all ages from private training programs, film analysis & breakdown, camps in Arizona and the Midwest, to high level youth and high school training academies with his friends at PowerHouse Hoops (the program responsible for over 60 college scholarships in the last 4 years). In the last two years alone, he has worked with over 30 D1 players from schools like Marquette, Oregon, Kansas, ASU, Georgia, and BYU just to name a few. He continues to work with college players in the off-season as well as helping them continue their playing careers after they graduate!

Resume aside, Kyle’s unique gift is the energy he brings to every single workout or camp. His passion for teaching the game is infectious and the number one goal of every camp he works is that the training translates on and off the court.

How long have you been coaching basketball?

On a much smaller scale, I began coaching, training and working camps when I was still in High school in the late ‘90s! Then I played college ball and have been coaching or training officially ever since! I started coaching basketball because I love to teach, build relationships and then work together to improve and build confidence. I'm excited to bring all of these crucial skills to the Nike Basketball Camp in Arizona. Above and beyond teaching a specific basketball skill or concept, I think the most important thing is simply learning HOW TO WORK - that translates to every single thing you do!

Favorite Camp Drill?

For me, that is what’s unique to each camp - finding the drill, series or competition that fits the group perfectly. With that said, we are big believers in playing the game with someone in front of you so I tend to enjoy watching our campers compete in 1v1 and 3v3 type situational settings. WHAT WILL IT BE THIS YEAR?

Your perfect camper on Day #1 arrives with what qualities?

Show up with a Team Attitude: ready to bring energy to the group, encourage those around you, and compete to make each other better! Know that WILLING is the enemy of EAGER - BE EAGER TO IMPROVE. The key to a great camp experience is being open minded. Show up to camp ready to work to improve, learn new basketball concepts or skills to improve your game, and maybe the best part about camp environments is the chance to meet a new friend or workout buddy!

Go-To Nike Gear?

Part of the DAILY ROUTINE is getting geared up in the swoosh life! My regular go-to’s are the no show low sock (yes, 90s kid), Nike Running shoes or AirMax, and then hoops shorts of all colors!

Which college or pro player do you make it a point to watch play?

This year it was BUDDY HEILD!!! What a story from where he came from to what he has accomplished for OU. For all players, study him without the ball. He moves with a purpose to set himself up to receive the ball and attack!
