Getting to Know: Lee Miller, Founder of Elite Hoops Basketball

Lee Miller

2016 marks Lee Miller's 13th year as Founder and Director of Elite Hoops Basketball. Elite Hoops Baketball and Nike Basketball Camps teamed up in 2005, providing upbeat, challenging basketball instruction for players throughout the Southeast. Miller and staff have created an established Nike Basketball Camp market, with most locations selling out year after year. Miller and his Elite Hoops Basketball staff will run over 40 stand-out summer camp sessions this summer including the Nike Basketball Camps in Georgia, Tennessee, Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

How long have you been coaching basketball?

I started coaching at the University of Georgia in 2000 as a student assistant, then coached 6 years on the high school level, one more year of college at Georgia State University in 2007, and full time with Elite Hoops ever since.

Your perfect camper on Day #1 arrives with what qualities?

The willingness to work hard regardless of their current skill level.

Which college or pro Coach do you admire and why?

Coach Pop. He has coached the Spurs in 3 completely different ways over the years. In the early 2000s it was defense, in the early 2010s it was pace and space, and now has slowed them down and used the post up game more. Amazing!

Favorite drill or activity at camp?

Outside of actual drills, Throwback Thursday is great. I love seeing what old uniforms and gear players wear to camp that day.

Favorite Camp Drill?

No doubt, full court 3 on 3.

Which college or pro player do you make it a point to watch play?

Russell Westbrook. His relentless energy and effort is by far the best I’ve ever seen.

What message would you like parents to understand prior to camp?

Our goal is to make each player 1% better each day they are on the court with us. Sometimes that means they might not be in a group with their friends or even players their own age, but it will make them better.
