US Sports Camps Helps Get Underprivileged Children Registered For Summer Camp In Boston
San Rafael, CA June 22, 2015 - US Sports Camps, America’s largest operator of professionally run sports camps, is proud to announce a collaboration with Scholar Athletes (SA) to help send over 65 youth boys and girls to sports camps in the greater Boston metro this summer.
Scholar Athletes, a non-profit organization with a mission to support academic achievement through athletics, was founded in 2009 by the CEO of Suffolk Construction, John Fish. With dedicated staff in their academic learning centers, located in 20 Boston Public High Schools, they aim to reduce the opportunity gap by providing students with a host of valuable resources from tutoring support to athletic opportunities.
Specifically, their Camp Scholarship Program is focused on motivating positive academic performance and school attendance. Scholar Athletes will provide camp scholarships for students who are members of these public high schools, to attend the Nike Sports Camps, to help them develop as scholar-athletes. Students must apply for a sports camp scholarship, and demonstrate academic improvement and positive school attendance to earn their way into camp.
Terrell Maddox, senior athletic services coordinator, comments: “The Scholar Athletes Camp Scholarship Program has motivated Boston Public High School scholar-athletes to improve their GPA and position them for academic achievement throughout the school year. Summer is a critical time of the year to keep our youth engaged in positive activities and ensure that summer learning loss is minimized. In a landscape where opportunity to attend summer sports camps are scarce and the thirst to play at the next level is plentiful, we are able to tackle both in a meaningful way. Through our partnership with Nike Sports Camps and others, we are able to reward deserving students with a scholarship to some of the best local sports camps in New England, while gaining fundamental skills that will better prepare them for their season and the next school year. ”
