Stanford Facility

This summer Stanford University Women’s Head Rugby Coach Matt Sherman and his coaching staff, consisting of National Team USA Rugby players, will deliver a world-class ELITE Rugby Camp specifically crafted for female rugby athletes.

(PRWEB) March 22, 2013 – Today US Sports Camps announced Matt Sherman as director for the ELITE camp at Stanford. Sherman’s resume includes coaching positions with USA Rugby U18 Junior National Team, USA Rugby Collegiate All-Americans, USA Rugby Senior National Team, as well as the Olympic Club 7's. As a player Sherman attended Cal (‘03) where he won four national championships and was a three time All-American. Sherman represented the USA National Team in the 2003 Rugby World Cup.

The Girl’s Elite Rugby Camp at Stanford University offers overnight and day camp options. The camp will be held from July 29 - Aug 1, 2013. The day camp includes all rugby instruction, match play and lunch. The overnight camp includes key fundamental drills, fun match play, meals, housing and evening activities. Girls will reside on the Stanford University Campus, one of the finest academic and athletic institutions in the country. Rugby training will take place daily at Stanford’s own Steuber Rugby Stadium.

Sherman, who has led his Stanford Women’s Rugby team to four National Championships and nine Final Four appearances said, “We’re thrilled to be hosting the first ELITE Girls Rugby Camp at Stanford this summer. As girls and youth rugby is exploding in growth locally and across the country, we look forward to offering the opportunity for young girls to further develop their skills and have a great camp experience on the Stanford campus. Stanford has a long and storied tradition of rugby in the women’s game, and we look forward to sharing that with young female rugby players.”

The authoritative Sporting Goods Manufacturers Association annual report showed over 1.1 million Americans had played Rugby during 2011. The Women’s game is also gaining popularity throughout the nation. The sport’s governing body, USA rugby, has recorded an increase of over 14,000 registered female players since 1999. Officials say they expect that number to continue growing with rugby’s return to the Olympics in 2016.
