NIKE Rugby Camps, a Summer Tradition in San Diego
Nike Rugby Camps, formerly Elite Rugby Camps, returns to San Diego for the eighth consecutive summer.
April 29, 2016 – Nike Rugby Camps will once again welcome young rugby players from far and wide to USD for a camp that has become part of the fabric of the junior rugby landscape in San Diego for the better part of a decade. The camp’s success is due in large part to Ethan Willis and his commitment to junior rugby in San Diego. Willis, founder of Elite Rugby Camps and current Nike Camp director, has offered an all abilities rugby camp staffed by USA Rugby coaches and players every year since 2009.
“I’m excited for our eighth summer here in San Diego,” says Willis. ”We take great pride in having USA team members instill proper rugby fundamentals, work ethic and goal setting in young players, and then we get to watch them develop on and off the field. It’s been particularly rewarding to see annual camp attendees like Devin Lim, who first came to camp at 11 years old, go on to represent the Junior All American team.”
“The camp in San Diego is really the flagship for us,” states Jason West, senior vice president for Nike Rugby Camps. Ethan has created a program that truly welcomes, engages, and challenges players of virtually every skill level and age. More importantly, he and the USA coaches and players are as interested in the development of character as they are skill, and that resonates with parents who choose to send their kids to his camp.”
The 2016 Nike Rugby Camps in San Diego are scheduled for June 26 – 29 and July 31 – August 3. The first week is for boys, ages 9 – 13, and the second for boys, ages 14 – 18. Campers reside on campus at University of San Diego and eat in the dining commons. All abilities are welcome, and a day camp option is offered for local players.
