Nike Running Camps Showcase Experienced and Knowledgeable Guest Speakers

San Rafael, CA (Vocus/PRWEB) -- Select Nike Running Camp locations offer campers the opportunity to learn from and listen to talented and dedicated athletes in their field. Campers leave sessions inspired and uplifted by the guest speakers at Nike Running Camps.

The Smoky Mountain Running Camp in Asheville, North Carolina, the Five Star Cross Country Camp in Rock Hill, New York and the Stanford “Camp of Champions” Cross Country and Track and Field Camps in Palo Alto, CA offer interesting guest speakers in addition to top notch training.

1st Location – Smoky Mountain Running Camp, Asheville, North Carolina runs three consecutive weeks of camp July 10-15, July 17-22 and July 24-29.
We are proud to announce two outstanding speakers at camp, Oklahoma State Coach Dave Smith and runner and author Matt McCue. Dave Smith will present during sessions one and two. Coach Smith coached German Fernandez who won the 2009 NCAA title in the 1,500 meters and was the Big 12 individual cross country champion.

Matt McCue will present during sessions two and three. Matt was an elite runner at the University of Colorado and now has a book out called An Honorable Run which follows Matt’s running journey from the beginning of his high school career, to the end of his collegiate running career. The story focuses on the most influential forces on Matt’s running, two legendary coaches. First, Matt runs for Coach Bob Brown, his high school coach at Iowa City Regina, and then Coach Mark Wetmore at The University of Colorado.

2nd Location – Stanford University “Camp of Champions” Track & Field (July 16-20) & Cross Country (July 20-24) in Palo Alto, CA has hosted several esteemed speakers throughout the years. Expect more of the same for 2011. If you check back on our website in the next few months, we will have updates on our speakers at camp!

Scheduled speakers include current and former Stanford Student Athletes, NCAA Champions, former Olympians, representatives from Stanford University as well as a sports psychologist and nutritionist.

Highlighted past speakers include Ian Dobson who is a Stanford Alum as well as a ten-time All-American, an NCAA champion in the 5000m, and a 2008 Olympian. His wife, Julia Lucas, is also affiliated with the Oregon Track Club under Nike. She is a three-time All-American and two-time ACC champion while competing for North Carolina State. Stanford also boasts former Olympian Lavonna Martin-Floreal as a guest speaker. She is a 100M hurdle silver medalist.

3rd Location – Five Star Cross Country Camp at in Rock Hill, New York offers an event packed week at Iroquois Springs, August 14th through the 20th.
Our 2011 lineup includes local favorites as well as household names. Returning is speaker Dick Beardsley who lost the 1982 Boston Marathon by two seconds to Alberto Salazar. He’s won the hearts of Five-Star Campers for many years.

We also welcome for his 2nd year, Richard Ruffalo, a master motivator, author, educator, and internationally recognized athlete. At age 32, he lost his eyesight but never lost his vision. He is the winner of four different world titles in shot put, discus, javelin, and power lifting. He has earned 14 international gold medals, won 32 national titles, set nine world and 15 national records, and has won 13 USA Track and Field K-2ster’s state titles against sighted competitors.

A local legend, Tom Cuffe brings his enthusiasm and zest for running, training and life to Five Star. As the head Cross Country Coach at Farrell High School in New York, Cuffe has produced more than 48 All- Americans. This will be is 16th appearance at Five Star.
At NIKE Running Camps, our goal is to stimulate a love for running and aid runners to become better, faster and smarter athletes. They provide an educational and inspirational experience for camper’s ages 12-18, all skill levels and abilities.
