Getting to Know: Chris Klingemann, Northwestern University Associate Men’s Tennis Coach

Northwestern Chris Klingemann Headshot

Chris Klingemann entered his fourth season on the Northwestern men's tennis coaching staff in 2014-15. In August 2014 he was promoted to the role of associate head coach.  Prior to joining the collegiate coaching ranks Klingemann starred for four years at Ohio State and played for over two years on the ATP Tour upon graduation.  Klingemann, a native of Winnetka, IL, was ranked amongst the top-six ATP professionals in Canada and amongst the top 520 players in the world. He has been running the camps at Northwestern University for the last four years side by side with Head Men's Tennis Coach, Arvid Swan.  With both junior day camps and adult weekend clinics, there is a camp option for everyone!

How many years have you been directing camp?
4 Years

Favorite camp drill?
6 ball drill (groundstroke, approach, volley, volley, overhead) - I love this drill because it gets almost all the strokes in one drill and works on footwork

Why did you get in to coaching?
As soon as I was done playing, I knew I wanted to get into coaching because I love the sport so much.

What’s in your bag?
As a coach, I have an extra racket, plenty of sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, and water.

If you could “borrow” one stroke from a current pro player, who would it be and why?
I would love to have Roger Federer’s forehand because it is one of the biggest shots in the game!
