Getting to Know: Duke Paluch, Exectutive Director of Rocky Mountain Tennis Center

Duke Paluch, Executive Director of RMTC, has been the Club Manager/Director of Tennis at the Millennium Harvest House Tennis Club for the past 26 years. A top-ranked junior player himself, Duke was also a two-time collegiate All American player.  Come join Duke and the entire staff this summer for a memorable experience in Boulder this summer!  See you on the courts!

How many years have you been directing camp?
This is my 8th season Directing Nike Camps.  Co-Directing the last few years with Noah Sussman.

Favorite camp drill?
My favorite drill is double tap mini-tennis where we pair the best (and usually oldest) players with the weakest (and usually youngest) players.  Each player must tap the ball to their partner before hitting the ball over the net. It’s amazing to see the older players work with the younger players and everyone has a great time.

Why did you get in to coaching?
I got into coaching because I played tennis throughout my life and I love the game.  What a great opportunity to meet and work with so many wonderful people of all ages and ability levels.

What's in your bag?
My bag has racquets, shoes, water bottle, towel, extra shirt/socks, overgrips, sweatbands and ace bandage wrap (getting old).  ;)

What can you be heard saying on the courts?
My favorite line with my students is “Slow it down, it’s all about the rally”.  With the age and level of player at our camps, the emphasis is on developing rally skills.

If you could “borrow” one stroke from a current pro player, who would it be and why?
I’m a big fan of Rafa Nadal.  We’re big supporters of Nike and Babolat players in Boulder, Colorado!  I’d borrow his forehand.  He generates such a crazy amount of topspin.  We can use all the spin we can generate to keep the ball in the court here at high altitude!
