San Rafael, CA (P.R. WEB) April 30, 2012 - The NCAA Division II Softball Committee has selected the 64 teams that will participate in the 2012 NCAA Division II Softball Championship and has awarded the Adelphi University softball team the #7 seed in the East Regional. Four teams will participate at each of 16 regional sites in double-elimination tournaments.

The seventh seeded Panthers are joined by #2 Molloy, #3 C.W. Post and #6 Dominican in their bracket, with all games being held on the campus of LIU-C.W. Post. The other side of the East Regional bracket will be held at Southern Connecticut State University, the top seed in the east. The Owls are joined by #4 Caldwell, #5 UMass-Lowell and #8 Assumption.

This is the sixth Division II NCAA Tournament appearance for Adelphi and the first since 2008. The Panthers will open up regional play on Friday, May 4 at 3:30 pm against Molloy.

At the helm of the panthers is NIKE Softball Camp Director, Paige Smith. Smith guided the Panthers to a 29-25 overall record in her fourth season in 2011. Smith led Adelphi to a 19-11 record in conference play as the Panthers entered the NE-10 Tournament as the sixth seed. Smith led her squad deep into the NE-10 Tournament which included a 4-0 win over first-seeded Assumption. In that year she landed five players on the NE-10 All-Conference teams (one Second-Team, four Third-Team).

“NIKE Softball Camps is lucky to have Paige Smith as one of our directors” Mike de Surville Vice President of US Sports Camps stated. “Her camps are known for being high energy with an emphasis on individual skill-work.”

The Panthers will compete in regionals and are on track to have a successful run before Smith shifts her gears to directing NIKE Softball Camp this summer. For more information on her camp please visit http://www.ussportscamps.com/softball/nike/adelphi-university/.
