Sam Houston State Confirmed as New Location for Nike Rugby Camp

April 25, 2014

Youth rugby players are invited to Hunstville, Texas for a week of rugby instruction at Sam Houston State University.

(PRWEB) April 25th, 2014 – Nike Rugby Camps announces the addition of an all boys’ overnight rugby camp in Texas at Sam Houston State University. Participants have the privilege of utilizing the SHSU athletic facilities while residing in the dorms on campus and experiencing college life first-hand. Like most Nike Camps across the country, this program utilizes current and former members of the USA Eagles 15s and 7s as coaches to expose youth rugby players to the highest level of instruction in the nation.

“We are thrilled to expand our network of camps into such a talented athletic state such as Texas,” says National Director of Nike Rugby Camps, Nicholas Brunner. “Campers have the opportunity to work with a passionate rugby educator in Gary Holub and professional USA players on a daily basis. It’s going to be a great experience for rugby athletes, regardless of their skill level.”

Nike Rugby Camps at SHSU is directed by Gary Holub. Holub is the head coach at the Regis School of the Sacred Heart in Houston and is a Sam Houston Rugby Hall of Fame inductee. He also plays an integral role in the Houston two-day clinic held at Regis that precedes the international test match at BBVA Stadium. Coach Holub has current and former members of the USA Eagles on staff during the week including 15s lock, Tai Tuisamoa, and former Eagles 7s player, Colin Hawley.

"As the rugby scene continues to explode in Houston we are excited to offer a top-flight rugby camp experience,” states Nike Camp Director and Founder of Elite Rugby Camps, Ethan Willis. “We are confident that our tested camp model of having international-level players and coaches teach proper fundamentals will help elevate the level of play of all players who attend."

The curriculum focuses on catch and pass technique, defensive structure, tackle technique, position-specific training, and contact scrimmaging. Evening activities include strength and fitness training, film sessions and fun activities on campus.

The week-long overnight session is offered from July 20th – 23rd for boy’s ages 9 to 18. A day option is also available for local campers from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. To learn more, please visit Nike Rugby Camps at Sam Houston State for complete information on this program.
