Current and former members of Team USA provide “Elite Training” on virtually every facet of the game. Whether you’re a newcomer to the sport or an experienced player, Nike Rugby Camps will provide you with the tools to take your game to the next level!
Nike Rugby Camps has designed and coordinated the finest rugby camp system in the nation, benefiting over players of all ages and skill levels. Nike Rugby Camp, San Diego offers overnight and day camp options. The overnight camp includes key fundamental drills, fun match play, meals, housing and evening activities. Campers reside in dorms on the beautiful campus of University of San Diego and all rugby activities take place at Francis Parker School, just minutes away from USD. The day camp (9:00am - 4:00pm) includes all rugby instruction, match play and lunch.
Gold Medal Training Program
Specifically designed for 14 - 18 year olds, the Gold Medal segment of the overnight camp provides an elite element for serious rugby athletes. Participants begin camp at 7:30am on Sunday, July 20th before regular camp commences and ends at 6:00pm on Wednesday, July 23rd following the normal check-out ceremony. This high-level segment includes additional emphasis on fitness testing, advanced skill instruction, nutrition, film analysis, game IQ, prehab/injury prevention, and strength and conditioning. One-Day Weekend Clinic @ San Diego State University
Nike Rugby Camps is offering a one-day weekend clinic in addition to it's overnight camp in 2014. The clinic will take place on Sunday, June 29th from 9:00am - 4:00pm. The program will be held at San Diego State University under the direction of the same great staff. Campers of all skill levels are welcome to join this clinic for an action-packed weekend of rugby! Lunch is NOT provided for this program. This program is CO-ED and campers will be split up based on gender and skill level.

Founder of ELITE Rugby Camps, Ethan Willis has mentored and coached over 5000 young aspiring rugby players. Willis has played a major role in the current explosion of Rugby onto the USA sporting scene. Ethan’s players have gained numerous accolades in the sport of rugby, but more importantly have left camp with an understanding of how to become successful on and off the rugby field. Ethan currently plays rugby for the infamous Old Mission Beach Athletic Club in San Diego. Willis is a life long educator, graduating from the University of Rhode Island with a degree in education. He continually attends coaching clinics domestically and abroad to stay updated on the continually changing game.
Hawley is a current USA XV’s and 7’s star player. He played for the USA Eagles National Team in the 2011 Rugby World Cup, at Wing. Hawley began his illustrious national rugby career while he was still in college. Hawley played Center/Fullback for the University of California Golden Bears. While at Cal, Hawley was named to the Collegiate All-Americans (2007–2010) as well as the team MVP (2007). Hawley culminated his collegiate career when he led his team to an NCAA Rugby National Championship in 2010. During this tournament he was selected to the prestigious All-Tournament Team.Read Full Bio
Hawley has played with the US National Sevens team in several international tournaments, including the Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico, as well as the Churchill Cup in England. Hawley graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 2010 with a degree in Political Science.
Alex Lichtig started his rugby career at San Diego State University. Alex was a Southern California Collegiate All-Star and Collegiate All-American honorable mention. After San Diego State, Alex honed his rugby attacking skills playing Premier Level rugby in the North Harbour province of New Zealand.
Alex coached the 2009 collegiate all-star champions and was an assistant coach with Matt Sherman at San Diego State. Alex is committed to developing today’s youth players into the elite players of the future, while having fun every step of the way.
A five time All-American at the University of California-Berkeley, Chris Biller is a consisitent starter for the USA team. Biller was the starting hooker in the 2011 Rugby World Cup. He has won 16 caps during his career. Chris made his debut for Team USA in a match versus Ireland in May 2009, in which he scored a try. Prior to representing team USA, Biller became a 5 time collegiate All-American playing for the California Golden Bears.
Chris Biller went on to compete for the Francisco Golden Gate squad after college. Chris has played professionally for Bath Rugby and the Northampton Saints in Europe. He was born on the 10th of October 1985 in Concord, California.
Ian Denham began playing competitive rugby at 12 years old in his hometown of Dublin,Ireland. Ian represented three time Heineken cup champions Leinster at schools, underage and collegiate levels. A keen sevens player Ian has played on many invitational teams throughout the international circuit, earning a bronze medal at the European collegiate championships with Ireland. Ian is currently a San Diego resident playing with OMBAC.
Orin is the strength and conditioning coach for Nike Camp in San Diego. Catrett is currently the Assistant Strength and Conditioning coach with San Diego State University. An avid rugby player, Orin was selected as an honorable mention Collegiate All American and named to numerous Southern California Collegiate All Star sides. Orin is committed to continuing his education and after finalizing his masters degreee in kinesology and excercise science, Orin plans to persue a doctorate degree.
Chris Clever brings 17 years of playing experience at the highest level in the US to the Elite Camp. Chris was a member of the Jr. National team, and an All –American. He has won multiple national championships both at the collegiate and senior men's level. He has played at the highest level of rugby on 6 of the 7 continents around the world.
Chris' international experience also includes playing for Stellenbosch University in South Africa. He has received coaching certifications through the ‘Community Rugby’ program from the RFU in England. Coach Clever has been coaching with ELITE since 2009.
Team USA Players
Each Nike Camp will have current and former members of USA Rugby on staff
Nike Rugby Camps offer players the individualized coaching needed to improve their skill-set and gain a deeper understanding of the game. Our curriculum is the perfect blend of expert coaching, constructive drills, and fun evening activities. With two outstanding coaches in Ethan Willis and Matt Sherman, players can leave at the end of the week with a greater confidence and passion for the game.
The overnight camp includes key fundamental drills, team strategies, match play, meals, housing and evening activities. The day camp (9:00am - 4:00pm) includes all rugby instruction and lunch. Day campers will be dropped off and picked up at the end of each day at the Francis Parker School.
Check-In and Check-Out
Check-in will take place between 1:00-2:00pm on the first day of camp. Check-out will take place at 1:00pm on the last day of camp. Gold Medal campers arrive earlier on the first day (7:30am) and depart later on the last day (6:00pm).
Check-in for the one-day clinic is from 8:30 - 9:00am at SDSU. Lunch is NOT included so please bring a sack lunch. Camp will end at 4:00pm. GIRLS ARE WELCOME TO ATTEND THIS CLINIC.
Campers may arrive early and stay in the dorms the night before camp starts. The early arrival fee is $150 per camper (includes dinner). To add an early arrival please call (415) 451-2210.
Linens and A/C
Linens will be provided in the dormitories. Campers need to bring their own towels. There is no A/C in the dorms.
Overnight Campers: we are offering a $30 per player discount for five or more team members from the same team/club. Day Campers: $20 per player discount for five or more team members from the same team/club. Please call 800-645-3226 and register by phone to receive the discount.
Campers are supervised 24 hours a day. The staff live in the dormitories with the campers and participate in evening activities. Drugs, alcohol and tobacco are strictly prohibited, and constitute, along with general misconduct, grounds for dismissal from camp without a refund.
Nike Rugby Camps does not provide transportation to and from airports, bus depots or train stations. The packet we send to registered campers in the spring offers suggestions on shuttle services for each specific camp.
A detailed camper registration packet containing check in location, health/release forms, emergency contact info, and a list of things to bring will be emailed to all registered campers in the spring.
