Cal Softball Camps

Entering her third season with the Golden Bears in 2023, Spencer is coming off a 28-27-1 campaign in 2022 which included series wins over No. 7 Washington, No. 24 Stanford and No. 25 Arizona. Cal's offense put up program Top-10 marks with 57 home runs (third-best in history) and a .291 team batting average (seventh-best in history) under the tutelage of Spencer.

As a shortstop, Spencer was part of four straight Women's College World Series teams with the Golden Bears, including the 2002 NCAA championship squad. She returns to Cal after spending the past two seasons as an assistant coach at Texas and the 2013-18 seasons at Oregon.

Spencer was born in Oakland and attended Arroyo High School in San Lorenzo. Since earning her Cal degree in American studies in 2006, she has remained entrenched in softball as both a player and a coach. She played professional softball through 2010, while her coaching career began at Chabot College in 2007. She moved to the Division I ranks in 2011 as an assistant at Michigan State before her stints at Oregon and Texas.

While at Texas in 2019, Spencer helped the Longhorns to a final No. 9 national ranking from Softball America, as the team reached the NCAA Super Regionals for the first time since 2013. Her efforts helped produce five All Big-12 honorees, three all-region selections and two NFCA All-Americans.

During Spencer's time at Oregon, the Ducks produced five 50-win campaigns, five regular-season conference championships and four appearances in the WCWS. In addition, the Oregon coaching staff won the 2016 Pac-12 Coaching Staff of the Year award. Spencer mentored 17 All-Americans, four Academic All-Americans and a Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

Before heading to Eugene, Spencer completed two seasons as an assistant coach at Michigan State, guiding Spartans shortstop Lindsey Hansen to All-America honors in 2011.

At Chabot, Spencer was tabbed the Coast Conference North Division Coach of the Year in 2009, and eight of her players transferred to upper division programs.

While donning the Blue and Gold, Spencer started 277 consecutive games at shortstop. In addition to being on the 2002 national championship team, she was also part of two consecutive national runner-up finishes in 2003 and 2004, as well as the 2005 Pac-10 championship squad. Spencer was named to the WCWS All-Tournament team twice (2002, 2003) and an NFCA All-American as a junior when she batted .326 with eight home runs and 17 stolen bases.

Highlighting an impressive professional playing career from 2005-10, Spencer was a four-time All-National Pro Fastpitch selection. She was part of the 2009 league champion Rockford Thunder squad and served as team captain for the Philadelphia Force in 2007.

Telesco, a San Jose native, will begin working with the Bears as the hitting coach and recruiting coordinator.

"I'm honored to bring San Jose native Brandon Telesco back to The Bay," Spencer said. "He is a rising star in the coaching community with experience at multiple levels. I'm confident that he will help get us back to the place where we strive to be - the Women's College World Series. Brandon's drive to be the best, paired with his competitive nature, set him apart from most."

The 36 wins at Park University Gilbert set a school record and surpassed the number of wins the program had accumulated in its first three seasons of competition. Telesco was selected as the Cal Pac Coach of the Year and the Bucs had two First Team all-conference selections, honorable mention all-conference honorees and two student-athletes recognized on the All-Defensive team.

"I am extremely honored and humbled to receive the opportunity to coach at such a prestigious university," Telesco said. "I'm thrilled to return to the Bay Area with my family and I want to thank Coach Spencer for this opportunity. I can't wait to help Cal return to the pinnacle of our sport."

As a team in 2023, the Buccaneers set school records in just about every offensive category, including runs (287), hits (425), doubles (75), triples (13), home runs (22), RBI (250), walks (120), sacrifice bunts (32) and stolen bases (103).

Prior to Park University Gilbert, Telesco spent three seasons as the associate head coach, recruiting coordinator and hitting coach for the softball program at South Mountain Community College in Phoenix, Ariz. While at SMCC, Telesco helped turn around a program that had finished last in its conference (ACCAC) prior to his arrival into a nationally ranked NJCAA program.

The Cougars set a school record for winning percentage with a 25-9 record (.735) in his second season before posting program bests in home runs, hits and runs scored in his third year. South Mountain batted .406 as a team in 2021 and swiped 142 bases to lead all ACCAC teams.

Telesco is a 2018 graduate of Arizona State University with a degree in organizational leadership and is currently working towards a master's degree in organizational leadership from Park

CSUF's pitching staff excelled under the tutelage of O'Toole-Trejo in 2023, led by Big West Pitcher of the Year and NFCA All-West Region honoree Myka Sutherlin (1.64 ERA, 272 strikeouts) and Haley Rainey (1.53 ERA, 87 strikeouts).

O'Toole-Trejo participated in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games as a pitcher for the Mexican National Team, making three appearances and pitching 17.0 innings. She allowed three earned runs, 13 hits and two walks for a 1.23 ERA and 0.88 WHIP with seven strikeouts.

A native of Upland and referred to as "Tooly", O'Toole-Trejo retired from playing competitive softball in 2022 while being widely regarded as one of the top pitchers in the world, earning the title of inaugural Athletes Unlimited Softball Champion in the summer of 2022 with 1,436 points. She was selected to Team USA in January of 2017 and helped lead the team to a silver medal at the International Cup and a gold medal at the World Cup of Softball.

Prior to Cal State Fullerton, she spent two seasons (2018 and 2019) as the pitching coach for the San Diego Toreros softball program. In addition, O'Toole-Trejo conducts instructional clinics that cover both mental and physical training.

O'Toole-Trejo boasts a lengthy resume of softball and academic accomplishments during her collegiate career at Arizona and San Diego State. She earned NFCA All-America First Team honors in 2017 and was a three-time NFCA All-West Region selection.

Even with Arizona's rich softball tradition, O'Toole-Trejo goes down as one of the best pitchers in program history. In 2017 she became UA's first NFCA First Team All-American pitcher since Kenzie Fowler in 2010. She was named the 2017 Pac-12 Pitcher of the Year, the first Wildcat to win the award since Alicia Hollowell in 2004, and was selected as one of 10 Finalists for USA Softball Player of the Year. O'Toole-Trejo was a First Team all-conference and all-region performer as well as a member of the All-Defensive team.

She posted a 30-5 record with a Pac-12-best 1.21 ERA and struck out 210 batters in 219.0 innings while allowing two or fewer runs in 29 of her 34 starts on the season. O'Toole-Trejo finished in the top three in the Pac-12 in every major pitching category: 1st with a 1.21 ERA (9th in NCAA), 2nd with 210 strikeouts (28th in NCAA), 2nd with a .184 opponent batting average, 3rd with 219.0 innings pitched, 2nd with 30 victories (5th in NCAA), 2nd with 35 games started and 1st with nine shutouts (17th in NCAA).

O'Toole-Trejo also earned Mountain West Pitcher of the Year honors in 2014 and Mountain West Freshman of the Year recognition in 2013 while with San Diego State. She also excelled in the classroom and was a 2017 Pac-12 All-Academic selection before graduating in the spring of 2017 with a Bachelor's of Science in care, health and society.

Prior to her stint at Texas, Cuico spent four seasons on the coaching staff at Oregon, her alma mater, serving as a volunteer assistant from 2016-18, focusing on hitting and defense. During that span, Duck batters posted the nation's top batting average in 2016 (.353) and the second-best fielding percentage in school history in 2018 (.973) on squads that produced numerous All-Americans.

A standout student-athlete at Oregon from 2011-14, Cuico was a two-time NFCA All-Pacific Region and three-time All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention selection. She is the first Duck to reach a career 40-HR plateau and currently ranks second in the UO record books in both career homers (46) and RBI (180), and also third in walks (100). During her time in Eugene, she propelled the Ducks to 193 wins, two Women's College World Series berths (2012, 2014) and two Pac-12 regular season crowns (2013-14).

Following her collegiate career, Cuico played two seasons with National Pro Fastpitch, highlighted by helping the Chicago Bandits win the 2015 Cowles Cup title.

Internationally, Cuico has been a member of the Philippines National Team. In 2017, she led her squad to a second-place finish at the Asian Women's Championship (highest finish in Philippines softball history), earning the Philippines berths in the 2018 Women's Softball World Championship and the 2018 Asian Games.

"We're very excited to add Marisa Stankiewicz to our program," Spencer said. "Marisa is the perfect person for this job as she will step in and help us improve on many levels. Her experience as a successful student-athlete and deep background in the game gives her a foundation on film, analytics and recruiting. Her understanding of the life needs of the players on the field, in the classroom and in the community will help her be the glue between the staff and players."

Stankiewicz played softball at Arizona State, where she started each game of her junior and senior seasons at second base. She finished fifth on the team as a senior in 2018 with a .509 slugging percentage and fourth on the squad in on-base percentage (.437).

A native of Gilbert, Arizona, Stankiewicz graduated from ASU with a degree in exercise and wellness in 2017 and a master's in liberal studies and media relations in 2018.
