Ross Duncan
Camp Director

Ross Duncan

Ross Duncan was named the new men's tennis coach at Irvine Valley before the start of the 2013 season. And he will be the IVC women's tennis program's head coach starting with the 2017 season. He was chosen in March 2015, to represent the U.S. against players from 25 other countries in the inaugural ITF Young Senior World Team Championships.

He has done wonders with the men's program over the last four seasons. Irvine Valley has won three straight Orange Empire Conference titles, finished as the runner-up at the CCCAA State Championships in 2014 and then won back-to-back CCCAA team state titles in 2015 and 2016.

Irvine Valley has a record of 69-10 overall over the last four seasons under Duncan, including going 38-2 in the Orange Empire Conference. The Lasers are currently riding a 34-match win streak in conference.

Irvine Valley players have also captured several state individual titles over the last two seasons. The team of Valentin Baize and Max Rumeau won the state doubles title in 2015 and this past season Javier Callejo won the state singles title and the team of Scott Paz and Bruno Figlia captured the state doubles title.

Duncan also helped Irvine Valley garner the last two players of the year in the conference in Guillermo Ucelay (2015) and Sam Cohen (2016).

Duncan has an extensive tennis background as a top player and coach. He was the No. 1 junior from South Africa before coming to the United States on a scholarship to play at Pepperdine University. Ross went on to also star at UC Santa Barbara.

He played No. 1 singles and doubles at UCSB and helped lead the Gauchos to the best season in school history with a sweet 16 finish at the NCAA Tournament.

After studying sports management and graduating, he played professional tennis and earned ATP points in both singles and doubles and also competed for nine seasons in the prestigious Bundesliga in Germany.

Ross then went on to coach as the interim head coach at UC Santa Barbara and as the associate head coach at Oregon. In addition, he also coached professionally on the WTA Tour, including guiding a former top 30 player in the world.

Currently, Ross is ranked No. 1 in the nation in the Men's 35 Singles Division and has won back-to-back National Hard Court Championships in singles.

In 2012, he represented Team USA as the No. 1 singles player in the World Championship. Ross has again been chosen to represent Team USA in 2013 and was named captain of the team by the United States Tennis Association.

Ross was ranked No. 9 in the world in his age division last year.

In addition to his playing prowess, Ross is the National Director for Nike Tennis Camps and owner of Peak Performance Tennis.

Camper Reviews

  • 5/5.

The staff was great at the OSU Nike camp this year! This was our first year doing the camp ... my 8th grade son did the "Day Camp" from 9am - 5pm. He is already looking forward to staying for the entire week next year. I really appreciated the evaluation that Ethan was given at the conclusion of camp. It was very helpful to see where his strengths and weaknesses are ... and give him guidance on what to work on. I appreciate the time it took to evaluate him (and each player!), and additionally taking the time for specific written comments and encouragement. Thank you!

It was a great oppurtunity to improve and meet new people. I enjoyed the drills and also the no tennis activities. The other kids had great attitudes and helps me learn a lot.

  • 5/5.

My 11 year old daughter had a great, first-overnight camp ever experience. She had a very difficult time that first night, up until 1:30am and called me 4 times. I spoke with the camp counselor, and he was very supportive and very calm at 1:30am. I felt my daughter was with someone competent, and we got over that initial hurdle with no other issues after that. I appreciated his compassion. Also, my daughter left the camp much more interested in tennis than when she entered the camp, which is great! I also appreciated that ALL the kids received an award at the end.

Best Time Ever!

I had the best time ever! It was my first overnight camp and I was really nervous, but by the end I didn't want to leave! Ross is the greatest. I am coming back next year and can't wait to see Andrew and Ross.
