The Goalie School Tip: Keep Your Head Up!

Tgs Boys Goalie Stance Save

Quite simply, "the best goalie camp in all of lacrosse."

A tendency for some goalies is to take their eyes off of the action to reposition themselves after making a save. Unfortunately, this is not ideal as it is vitally important for goalies to constantly have their eyes up and head on a swivel.

Maintaining constant vision of the ball not only is important for the goalie but to their teammates as well. Constant communication to aid in positioning of teammates as well as dictating defensive strategy can only be done by keeping your eyes downfield at all times.

Eliminating this habit can be difficult as it is a tendency for goalies to want to check the cage to reset their position. This minor adjustment can distract the goalies overall concentration on the current play and lead to a breakdown in the defense.

Ultimately, breaking this habit will not only improve the goalies overall concentration but it will benefit the team defense as a whole. As the leader of the defense, you do not want to distract yourself potentially causing a lapse in the defensive strategy.

So keep your head up and on a swivel!
