Peak Performance Swim Camp Tip: Swimming in the Zone

Peak Performance Swim Camp Backstroke Freestyle Pull

The zone is an uncluttered, calm mental state that elite-level swimmers experience when competing. It’s the result of peak mental, technical, and physical conditioning. Swimmers who condition their bodies and minds to the max develop an enormous trust in their abilities. When competing, this trust envelopes them allowing them to perform at peak levels with little conscious thought. Swimmers who perform in the zone appear more relaxed and calmer than their competition, seeming to flow effortlessly down the pool.

The following quote underscores the importance of a zone-performance: “An anxious mind cannot exist in a relaxed body. When one is anxious so is the other. When one is relaxed so is the other.” - Author Unknown
