Tennis Tip: Serving Out Wide

Nike Tennis Stanford 07012014 1772

Head Men’s Tennis Coach at University of Minnesota, Geoff Young, stresses the importance of learning how to hit the slice wide serve in the deuce court:

“People always talk about the "lefty serve" in the add court.  Well, right handers can do the same thing, but in the deuce court.  Most players make the mistake when trying to hit this serve by hitting it too hard.  When hitting this serve you need to let the spin do the work.  Start the serve out towards the middle of the box and with a lot of slice spin absent of pace, the ball should start to tail away from the opponent in quick fashion.  With practice this can be a weapon to add to your game. “
