Nike Yoga Camps returns to East West Yoga in San Francisco's South Bay for its third summer! Campers, ages 7-12, will participate in daily yoga sequences, breathing and stretching exercises, engaging arts & crafts, and games!

Nike Yoga Camp for Kids is perfect for any youth athlete looking to improve their strength, focus, and confidence. Camp will cover pose sequences, stretching and injury prevention techniques, guided meditation, and fun games!

Sorina Diaconescu
Camp Director

Sorina Diaconescu

Sorina is a Yoga Alliance-certified instructor with a personal yoga practice that began in 1997. Her work with child athletes focuses on promoting a balanced physique, equally flexible and strong. Through yoga postures, language and play, she encourages children and teens to develop body and breath awareness and explore mindfulness techniques.

She has been teaching yoga to young swimmers within the Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics program since 2013. During 2014-2015, she also taught yoga to first- through third-grade students at the International School of the Peninsula in Palo Alto.

Sorina continues to study under the guidance of Indian-born master yoga teacher Anirudh Shastri, and has trained with yoga luminaries as Tim Miller, Chuck Miller, David Swenson, Maty Ezraty, Seane Corn and Shiva Rea.

Sorina currently teaches yoga to clients of all ages and abilities privately, at yoga studios within the Bay Area Peninsula, and to employees of Google at several of the company’s local campuses.

A print journalist in her previous career, Sorina received a B.A. in European Studies from UCLA and an M.A. in journalism from University of Southern California.

Amber East-D'Anna

Amber East-D'Anna is founder and owner of East West Yoga Studio. Amber holds a BA, JD, E-RYT 200 (RYT 500 in progress) and is It’s Yoga Kids certified. She was born and raised in Cupertino and Saratoga and thought Cupertino needed a lot more yoga when she began offering yoga classes at her mother’s dance studio in 2009.

Amber literally grew up at that dance studio, and began assisting children's dance classes at age 9 and teaching children's dance classes at age 15.  One of her passions is working with children and teens of all ages and encouraging them to have more awareness of their bodies and minds, in order to enjoy childhood - instead of feeling stressed at such a young age.  Living in the bay area, there is a lot of pressure on children in academics and other areas of life. The intent of the children's yoga classes is to help reverse some of that stress, create strength, flexibility and a positive body images, teach breath awareness, and offer them tools that they can use throughout their days to ease stress.

Amber’s love of all things yoga began in college at UCLA over 13 years ago.  It was an entirely new experience and seemed to encourage an entirely different mindset and a healthier approach to daily living. This was affirmed when, during law school at Santa Clara University, she began experiencing severe migraines, and had more days of intense migraines than days without migraines.  This is when the healing and grounding power of yoga and meditation became more firmly rooted in her practice.  Soon after, she began her ongoing professional training in yoga.  Teachers of influence include:  Seane Corn, Erich Schiffmann, Judith Hanson Lasater, Sarah Powers, Annie Carpenter, Maty Ezraty, Samantha Shakti Brown as well as all of the teachers at East West Yoga.  Amber continues to study, practice, and try to stay grounded while raising her sons, James and Parker, with her husband Patrick.

Camp Hours

Check-in: Monday at 1:15PM 
Closing Ceremony: Thursday at 4:15PM
Camp Meals: Please bring snacks and a water bottle.
Camp Hours: MON-THURS 1:30PM-4:30PM 

More Important Camp Details

Camper Evaluation

Upon arrival, all participants are evaluated by the staff so that their own instructional needs can be addressed throughout the week. Camp director/staff will modify all poses to suit each individual. Parents are invited to attend the closing ceremony! Departure immediately following the closing ceremony. 

Dress Code and Equipment

Campers should come dressed in comfortable, athletic clothing. Campers are asked to bring a yoga mat, water bottle, lunch, and a composition notebook with a pen/pencil for daily yoga journaling. 

Transportation

Transportation is not provided to or from camp.

Registration Packet

A detailed camper registration packet containing check in location, health/release forms, emergency contact numbers, and a checklist of things to bring will be emailed to all registered campers in the Spring. The US Sports Camps health and release forms do not require a doctor's signature and they will be collected on the first day of camp.

Camp will take place at the East West Yoga Studio located right off I-280 in the Cupertino Crossroads shopping center at 20670 Stevens Creek Blvd., Cupertino, CA 95014.

July 24, 2015: My daughter enjoyed the entire camp experience. She raved about the various activities that were provided which kept her entertained and engaged. She would definitely do this again.
