Sierra Canyon’s Summer Theater Day Camp provides an opportunity for young actors to refine and advance one’s curiosity towards the Performing Arts by joining an inclusive and creative community at the SC Summer Camp held by Sierra Canyon’s Director of Performing Arts, Mario Garcia. Mr. Garcia will be joined by a number of his talented colleagues to help teach lessons that range from theater warm-ups, improv games, scene studies, monologues, voice lessons, and fight choreography. The purpose of this camp is to help nurture and provide a welcoming space that will encourage each camper to find their voice and allow their true talent to develop confidence and creativity on stage, and in life.

    DIrector Mario Garcia

    As a producer and director, Mario has been working with stage actors for over twenty years. He is an experienced theatrical producer and director who is cultivating a Performing Arts Department at Sierra Canyon School. His recent credits at SC include: A Raisin in the Sun, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, 12 Angry Jurors, Shrek: The Musical, Bus Stop, Newsies, Clybourne Park, Seussical The Musical, and Mamma Mia.

Camp Details

Actors of all abilities are encouraged to join us this summer to gain lasting acting experiences while building new forms of respect and trust with their fellow actors. Each camper will work with knowledgeable and insightful acting coaches, and special guest coaches that work professionally in the world of theater, film, and television. All of the instructors have helped shape the positive environment we practice within our Sierra Canyon Theater Program. The summer camp is open to students who attend our campus and those who would like to partake in the Sierra Canyon experience.

2023 Dates

Session I: July 17-21
Session II: August 7-11
Ages: 9-14

Check-in: Monday at 8:45am
Closing Ceremony: Friday at 12:55pm. Parents are welcome to attend.
Daily Hours: 9:00AM-2:20PM

LUNCH

Participants may bring their own lunch or they can purchase a lunch from a daily take-out option. The director will put in a fast food order for $12 per person: Subway (Monday), Chipotle Tacos (Tuesday), Pizza (Wednesday), CCC Salad (Thursday), and In-N-Out Burger (Friday). Lunch will take place on the plaza located directly outside of the Black Box Theater.

HEALTH & RELEASE FORMS

All registered campers are required to have a parent or legal guardian fill out US Sports Camps’ mandatory Health & Release Forms online before arrival at camp. This camp does NOT require a doctor's signature on the forms.

INFORMATION PACKET

Camp Questions & Answers

Where will the actors meet?

The majority of the time, the students will meet in the SC Black Box Theater, but there will be times throughout the day that the students will have lessons in the SC Annex (Music Room).

How will the campers be grouped?

All actors will be placed in groups based on their age.

What is the supervision like?

Adult supervision will be provided throughout the entire camp hours. Sierra Canyon School is a safe campus with two security gates.

How does Drop-Off and Pick-Up work?

Drop-off and pickup will take place in the main parking structure, adjacent to the campus building located on Rinaldi Street. Adult supervision will begin at 8:45 am and end at 2:30 pm, so please make sure that you pick up your child at the end of our scheduled day.

Are the rooms air-conditioned?

Yes, each indoor work space will be air-conditioned.

Does my child need to arrive with prepared songs or monologues?

Each actor will arrive to camp with various levels of experience, so it is perfectly fine to attend camp without any prepared pieces of work (songs, monologues, dance, etc.)
