Nike Junior Golf Camps
Sam Houston State set to offer junior golf camps in Huntsville, Texas for another summer of instruction and fun. Get better this summer under the direction of college coaches and players, led by Head Coach, Brandt Kieschnick.
The overnight camp includes all golf instruction, course play, meals, housing, and evening activities. Campers are housed in the dorms on campus and eat meals in the dining halls each day. Following dinner each night, campers participate in evening activities that can include campus tours, movies, and other sports activities.
Local residents have the option of participating in the day camp which runs from 9:00am - 5:00pm. This option includes all golf instruction, lunch, and course play. Day campers are dropped off and picked up at the course each day. Details on the first and last days of camp will be included in the Nike Camp registration packet.

Camp Director Brandt Kieschnick
A former standout as a member of the Bearkat Golf Team (1995-1999), Head Coach Brandt Kieschnick took over the SHSU Golf Program on August 1, 2012 and has brought the winning tradition to the program.View Brandt Kieschnick's Bio ⟩
Under the direction of Kieschnick, the Bearkats claimed consecutive Southland Conference Championships for the first time in program history, doing so in 2013-14 and 2014-15. The 2014 league title was the first in 20 years for Sam Houston and occurred in just the second season under the new head man.
Prior to returning to his alma mater, Kieschnick played professional golf from 1999-2003 competing on the Adams Tight Lies Tour, Hooters Tour, Teardrop Tour, and Prairie Tour. In 1999, Kieschnick claimed the season-ending Prairie Tour Championship in Alvamar, Kansas. He recorded several top-10 finishes on the professional circuit including a third place finish in his first pro event at the 1999 Adams Tight Lies Tour event at Weston Lakes. He participated in three PGA Tour Qualifying School advancing to second stage in 2001 and followed the Monday qualifiers on both PGA Tour and Web.com Tour.
After professional golf, Brandt became the Assistant Golf Coach at Sam Houston State University from 2003-2005 where he led the women’s team to three team victories and their first Southland Conference Championship in 2004. Kieschnick coached two conference medalists in same year with women’s golfer Raman Saran claiming the 2004 Southland Conference tournament medalist and men’s golfer Robert Jefferson winning the 2004 Southland Conference tournament medalist, beating Chris Stroud in a playoff.
Brandt Kieschnick graduated from SHSU in 1999 earning a degree in history with a minor in business. He resides in Huntsville with his wife, Stephenie (SHSU Class of 2002), and two boys, Paxton and Preston.

Nike campers are housed in double rooms on campus and have their meals in the dining halls, giving each camper a glimpse of the college life. Golf instruction takes place at McIver Training Center located at Raven Nest Golf Club, home of the SHSU Bearkats Golf teams. Each day consists of breakfast, morning range instruction, lunch, afternoon course play, dinner, and evening activities. The Overnight fee includes all golf instruction, green fees, evening activities, housing and meals. The Day option includes all golf instruction, lunch, and course play. Day campers will be dropped off and picked up on campus each day.
Campers are supervised 24 hours a day. The staff lives in the dormitories with the campers and participates in evening activities. Drugs, alcohol and tobacco are strictly prohibited, and constitute, along with general misconduct, grounds for dismissal from camp without a refund.
Nike Golf Schools and Jr. Camps does not provide transportation to and from airports, bus depots or train stations. The packet we send to registered campers in the spring offers suggestions on shuttle services for each specific camp.
A detailed camper registration packet containing check in location, health/release forms, emergency contact info, and a list of things to bring will be emailed to all registered campers in the Spring.
Sample Daily Schedule
- 7:30am Wake up and breakfast in dining hall
- 8:30am Campers depart for golf course
- 9:00am Warm up, stretching, demonstrations by staff
- 9:15am Small group instruction focusing on putting, chipping, pitching and full-swing
- 12:00pm Lunch and relaxation
- 1:00pm Course play with focus on shot selection, course management, rules and etiquette (day campers depart following course play)
- 5:00pm Back to campus
- 6:00pm Dinner in dining hall
- 7:00pm Evening activities (campus tour, movies, field games, etc.)
- 10:00pm Lights out in dorms
Raven Nest Golf Club
Seamlessly blended into the rolling wooded landscape, Raven Nest offers players of every skill level a beautiful match between challenge and enjoyment. We are the home course of the Sam Houston State PGA Golf Management program, the Sam Houston State University Bearkats, Huntsville Hornets, and New Waverly High.
Mike McIver Golf Training Facility
The Michael McIver Golf Training Center opened in April of 2008. This state of the art 1800 square foot building is equipped with two hitting bays, V-1 swing analysis software and a lounge. The facility is available for use for the PGA Golf Management Program and the SHSU Golf Teams only. In addition to the McIver Training Center, there is a practice green, pitching and chipping areas, a practice bunker and expansive teeing area for PGA Golf Management students.
