Camp Director and Utah Rugby coach, Rob Randell, invites players to our youth rugby camp in Salt Lake City this summer for an unforgettable experience.
The Nike Rugby Camp at University of Utah offers both an overnight and day camp option. The overnight camp includes key fundamental drills, fun match play, meals, housing and evening activities. Campers stay in the residence halls on campus at University of Utah and eat their meals in the dining halls. For rugby instruction each day, participants take a short walk to the athletic fields. During the overnight session, there is a commuter option for local residents looking for a rugby camp close to home.

Camp Director Rob Randell
Rob Randell is the Forwards/Attack Coach for the University of Utah Men's Rugby Team.View Rob's Bio ⟩
Originally from Hawke's Bay, New Zealand, Rob was an accomplished athlete, representing New Zealand Secondary Schools in both water polo and rugby before relocating to the United States where he became a USA Eagle in both 7s and 15s. Coach Randell currently serves as an assistant forwards coach for the US Men's Jr. All American team and recently returned from a 60-day coaching shadow with New Zealand Super Rugby Championship team, the Highlanders, along with the completion of a High Performance Coaching course with the International Rugby Academy of New Zealand.
Assistant Coach John Cullen
Former Utah offensive line standout, John Cullen turned to rugby after football and excelled. An All-American in college he went on to spend time with the U.S. National Team for both 15s and 7s. He has played for the All-Army 7s and is now on contract with the Utah Warriors.
Assistant Coach Don Pati
Don Pati comes from a rugby family he also comes from a Utah family. A former All-American here at the University of Utah, he has won back to back 7s club titles with the Utah Selects. Don now travels with the Sevens U.S. National Team.

The overnight camp includes key fundamental drills, team strategies, match play, meals, housing and evening activities. The day camp includes all rugby instruction and lunch. Day campers will be dropped off and picked up at the end of each day on campus.

The staff live in the dormitories with the campers and participate in evening activities. Drugs, alcohol and tobacco are strictly prohibited, and constitute, along with general misconduct, grounds for dismissal from camp without a refund.
Nike Rugby Camps does not provide transportation to and from airports, bus depots or train stations. The packet we send to registered campers in the spring offers suggestions on shuttle services for each specific camp.
A detailed camper registration packet containing check in location, health/release forms, emergency contact info, and a list of things to bring will be emailed to all registered campers in the spring.
Sample Daily Schedule
- 7:30am Breakfast
- 8:30am - 11:00am Training session: catch and pass technique, defensive structure, tackle technique
- 11:00am - 11:45am Rugby/Scrimmage
- Noon Lunch
- 1:00pm - 3:00pm Training session: position specific training; forwards and backs
- 3:00pm Rugby/Scrimmage
- 5:00pm Dinner
- 7:00pm Exercise and science training
- 9:00pm Evening activity
- 10:00pm Lights out

University of Utah's beautiful campus sits on over 1500 acres, including the Health Sciences complex, Research Park, and Fort Douglas. It is located on the east bench of the Salt Lake Valley, close to the Wasatch Range and approximately 2 miles east of downtown Salt Lake City.
