Learn from the best at the Maryland Nike Swim Camp! The 2023 Nike Swim Camp will be hosted at Johns Hopkins University this coming summer! Situated in the north Baltimore neighborhood of Charles Village, competitive swimmers from DC, Maryland, Virginia and beyond can train and improve their strokes at the O’Connor Recreation Center, a 25 yard x 6 lane pool located adjacent to the AMR II Dormitory where overnight campers reside.
Just minutes from the Inner Harbor, Oriole Park and Camden Yards, the JHU Homewood campus is a peaceful place of green grass, wide-spreading trees, brick residence halls and classroom buildings. The interconnecting walkways create a comfortable country atmosphere in the heart of a major city. Campers train each day at the Newton White Aquatic Center's six-lane, 25-yard lap lane pool.

Head Coach Scott Armstrong
Directing camp this summer, is Scott Armstrong, the head coach of the Johns Hopkins men's and women's swimming teams. Coach Armstrong returned to his alma mater in May 2016 as just the fourth head coach in program history.

Assistant Coach Margaret Zagrobelny
Margaret Zagrobelny joined the Blue Jay coaching staff in September 2018. She came to Baltimore from Susquehanna, where she spent 2017-18 as an assistant swim coach and aquatics director. She was promoted to Associate Head Coach in June 2022.

Camp Details
SECURE YOUR SPOT!
You can expect a high demand on these first-come-first-serve camper spots, so please be sure to register early. This summer, JHU is offering three sessions of overnight camp with an extended day camp (8:30am-8:30pm) option for ages 10-18. Our goal is to maximize swimming potential by helping swimmers to create a winning mindset and provide ongoing and constructive feedback in the pool to improve stroke technique.
2023 OVERVIEW SUMMER CAMP
- Dates: July 10-13, July 17-20 & July 24-27
- Age Group: 10-18
- Gender: Coed
- Camp Type: Overnight & Extended Day (commuter)
- Check-in: ALL CAMPERS check-in between 2:00pm-3:00pm AMR II. There will be a camp orientation meeting after check-in and parents are welcome to attend.
- Check-out: There will be a closing ceremony at 11:30am on Thursday. ALL CAMPERS must check-out immediately following the ceremony at 11:30am. The director will confirm details on the first day of camp.
- Extended Day Schedule: MON 4PM-9PM, TUE-WED 8:30AM-8:30PM, THURS 8:30AM-12PM **Times subject to change
- Meals: All meals are provided for Overnight campers. Lunch and dinner are provided for all Extended Day (commuter) campers.
- Program: The Stroke Technique program is designed to provide competitive swimmers with a better understanding of swimming fundamentals. Stroke refinement along with constructive feedback will be the focus of the camp and allows each participant to gain a greater knowledge of proper stroke mechanics and ways to improve themselves individually.

CAMP CHECK-IN/CHECK-OUT
Session I: July 10-13
- Check-in: Monday between 2:00pm-3:00pm outside AMR II
- Check-out: There will be a closing ceremony at 11:30am on Thursday. ALL CAMPERS must check-out immediately following the ceremony at 11:30am. The director will confirm details on the first day of camp.
Session II: July 17-20
- Check-in: Monday between 2:00pm-3:00pm outside AMR II
- Check-out: There will be a closing ceremony at 11:30am on Thursday. ALL CAMPERS must check-out immediately following the ceremony at 11:30am. The director will confirm details on the first day of camp.
Session III: July 24-27
- Check-in: Monday between 2:00pm-3:00pm outside AMR II
- Check-out: There will be a closing ceremony at 11:30am on Thursday. ALL CAMPERS must check-out immediately following the ceremony at 11:30am. The director will confirm details on the first day of camp.
2023 HOUSING
- Dorm: Alumni Memorial Residences
- Number of Campers Per Room: 2 per room
- Roommates: Rooms are assigned by age & roommate requests. Roommate requests must be mutual and received no later than 14 days before the start of camp. If you don't have a roommate request, you will be placed in a room with someone near your age. It will be a great opportunity to meet someone new!
- Bathrooms: Shared
- Linens: Not included. Bring linens or sleeping bag, pillow, pillowcase, and a towel.
- Air Conditioning: Dorm Has A/C - No fan needed.
SUPERVISION
The staff reside in the dormitories with the campers and participate in all activities. Drugs, alcohol and tobacco are strictly prohibited, and constitute, along with general misconduct, grounds for dismissal from camp without a refund.
WHAT'S INCLUDED IN THE FEE?
- Instruction: Morning, afternoon, and evening training sessions
- Overnight campers: Dormitory housing on campus and all meals are provided.
- Extended Day campers: Lunch and dinner are provided.
- Supervision: Staff members reside in campers’ quarters and participate in all activities.
- Camp T-shirt & Prizes: Campers at multi-day camps will receive a Nike Swim Camps t-shirt and prizes.
INSTRUCTION, EQUIPMENT & FACILITY
- Ratio: 1:10 staff-to-camper ratio
- Groupings: Campers are grouped by age, ability, and experience.
- Equipment Needed: Please bring your water swimsuit, swim cap, googles and towel(s)
- Facility: O’Connor Recreation Center Pool
- Medical Protocol: Most camps have an athletic trainer on-site to help with illness or injury. In case of an emergency, campers will be transported to the nearest hospital.

EXTENDED DAY CAMPERS
Checklist of Things to Bring: We recommend that all Extended Day Campers bring a daily pack with the following items: swimsuit, swim cap, goggles, towel, sunglasses, hat, sunscreen, sandals, water bottle, dry land gear (running shoes, t-shirt, athletic shorts, sweatshirt) and any other appropriate clothing for that day’s activities which will be described to you on the first day of camp.
Camp Schedule & Meals:
- Monday: Extended Day Campers should arrive dressed and ready to swim. You will be assigned a counselor and given a complete schedule of all events during the week. Extended Day Campers stay until 9:00pm. Dinner is provided.
- Tuesday-Wednesday: Extended Day Camper Hours – 8:30am-8:30pm. Lunch and dinner is provided.
- Thursday: Extended Day Camper Hours - 8:30am-12:00pm. Check-out is immediately after the camp concludes.
TRANSPORTATION
Transportation is not provided. Campers are responsible for getting to and from camp on their own. There is no supervision before or after camp hours so please make arrangements to pick up your child on time.

This program is open to any all entrants. For your safety and benefit, we recommend you have competitive swimming experience (e.g. U.S.S. age group, national qualifiers, high school swimmers, or summer league swimmers) and can swim at least 50 meters in all four competitive strokes: fly, back, breast and freestyle.
Notice: US Sports Camps has leased or rented facilities from the Johns Hopkins University. However, US Sports Camps and any programs operated by US Sports Camps are not related to or affiliated with the Johns Hopkins University in any way. US Sports Camps is an entirely separate legal entity with no connection to the Johns Hopkins University aside from the temporary use of facilities for the specified program.

O’Connor Recreation Center Pool
The O’Connor Recreation Center Pool is home to the Johns Hopkins water polo as well as men's and women's swimming teams. The main pool is a 25-yard, six-lane competition pool. In addition, the facility features a deep water training pool, with depths of eight to 13 feet. The facility also has stadium seating for spectators and includes signage recognizing the men's three NCAA Championships, as well as record boards highlighting program and facility records.

How are swimmers grouped at camp?
Upon arrival at Johns Hopkins, campers are placed in groups with other swimmers having similar abilities and goals. Our camp staff will do their best to accommodate your needs, keeping in consideration your experience and desire to improve.

Great experience!

She mentioned she now can actually glide in the water effortlessly after learning new techniques from her coach at Nike Camp. Very important for a competitive swimmer! What an amazing program!
