Nike Swim Camp at Nazareth College
DON'T WISH FOR IT. WORK FOR IT.
AT NIKE SWIM CAMP
Come join us this summer at the Nike Swim Camp at Nazareth College, located in Western New York State, in Monroe County, in a charming suburb of Rochester. This camp offers competitive swimmers a challenging yet fun week of swim technique and training. Our goal is to bring out the very best in every swimmer we coach.
Home to Nazareth College’s Men's and Women's Swimming teams, campers receive instruction and work on their stroke technique in the Shults Center Pool, a 25-yard x 6 lane pool with a diving well and one meter board.
This camp is open to any and all entrants. For your safety and benefit, we recommend you have competitive swimming experience (e.g. U.S.S. age group, national qualifiers, high school swimmers, or summer league swimmers) and can swim at least 50 meters in all four competitive strokes: fly, back, breast and freestyle.
- Stroke technique refinement for competitive swimming
- Instruction takes place each day in the Shults Center
- Low camper to staff ratio and 24 hour supervision
- Small group and individual stroke analysis/instruction
- Fun evening social activities
- Every camper receives a Nike Camp T-shirt and Nike Swim Cap
- Every camper is eligible to receive merit-based prizes during camp

Camp Director Scott Whitbeck
Scott Whitbeck, head coach at SUNY New Paltz for eight seasons, was named in May 2016 as head coach of the Nazareth College men's and women's swimming and diving teams. He is the sixth head coach in the Golden Flyers' history and replaced Martie Staser, who coached the men's and women's teams for 12 seasons.View Scott Whitbeck's Bio ⟩
A native of Northville, Michigan, Whitbeck directed the Hawks to unparalleled success during his time there. The 2015-16 season was possibly the best in the school's history as both the men's and women's teams placed second at the SUNYAC Championships. For the men's team, it was the highest finish since a second-place result in 1994. The women's team also placed second in 2011, when Whitbeck was recognized as SUNYAC Coach of the Year.
At New Paltz, Whitbeck's swimmers won 46 conference titles in relays and individual events. His teams set school records in 17 of 19 women's events and 11 of 19 men's events. Six of his swimmers have been recognized with either the James Fulton (men's) or Grace Mowatt (women's) award, a conference honor that recognizes academic and athletic achievement.
Whitbeck also guided five swimmers to the NCAA meet in 2013 and each earned honorable mention All-American honors.
Before landing at New Paltz, Whitbeck had assistant coaching stints at University of Massachusetts and at the College of Wooster. In two seasons at UMass, Whitbeck helped the men's team to two Atlantic 10 Conference titles and 12 school records. Among the highlights in his two seasons at Wooster was coaching Elizabeth Roesch to an NCAA title in the 1,650-yard freestyle.
Whitbeck also has experience as aquatics director at New Paltz and has been the director of the New Paltz Elite Swim Camp since 2009.
Whitbeck excelled as a swimmer at Kalamazoo College in Michigan, where he was a 12-time All-American and a two-time Academic All-American. He still holds school records there for the 1,000- and 1,650-yard freestyles. He served as team captain in 2004 and was named the team's Most Valuable Swimmer. He went on to earn an NCAA post-graduate scholarship and the Charles Monroe departmental award for excellence in Economics.
Whitbeck earned an undergraduate degree in Economics and Business from Kalamazoo as well as Master's degrees in Business Administration and Sport Management from UMass.
The Nike Swim Camp at Nazareth College is a 5 day, highly technical swim camp designed to develop the skills of a competitive swimmer. All ability levels are welcome to come to the camp, but campers, at minimum, need to have had at least one season of training with a team and have a broad knowledge of all four strokes (i.e. this is not a lessons camp). The camp will be split into two separate camps, depending on the interest of the athlete.

TECHNIQUE CAMP: This camp is geared towards swimmers ages 9-18 with the goals of perfecting stroke mechanics and increasing overall knowledge of the sport. Campers will receive instruction on each of the four major strokes and work on the skill aspects (starts, turns, finishes) of each. Daily videos and lectures will supplement the drill instruction to enhance the athletes’ knowledge of key parts of swimming such as nutrition, goal setting, stretching, and race preparation. The camp will include both instruction as well as fun activities each night.
INTENSIVE CAMP: This camp, for those ages 11-18, is designed for the highly competitive swimmer that wants a combination of technique/lectures and also at least one good workout a day. These campers will have a two hour workout built into the format of the camp to ensure a high level of physical fitness throughout the week. The lectures and videos of this camp are more focused on training the elite swimmer and how to develop an athlete to compete at the highest levels. This camp will also include fun activities each day/night.
A detailed camper registration packet containing check-in location, health/release forms, emergency contact info, and a list of things to bring will be emailed to all registered campers prior to camp. Our health and release forms do not require a doctor's signature and they will be collected on the first day of camp.
Check-in takes place between 8:00-9:00am on Monday (July 9th or July 16th). There will be a camp orientation meeting at 9:30am and parents are welcome to join their campers for this meeting. There will be a closing ceremony at 11:30am on Friday with check-out immediately following. Exact time and location of the camp closing ceremony will be confirmed by the camp director on the first day of camp.

Camp ReviewsSubmit a review
July 18, 2018: My daughter thought the coaches were amazing...kind and fun, but also gave a lot of great constructive feedback. Really liked getting information on what it's like to swim at the college level. She received great individualized instruction.
— Stephanie T. Parent
July 17, 2017: Overall it was a great experience for my daughter and she enjoyed the camp and learned a lot. The nutrition part was very eye opening for her as we have told her she needs to eat more and drink more as she gets headaches. It was awesome to see the underwater video of her swimming as well.
— Kim M. Parent
July 17, 2017: My daughter was one of the younger campers being only 8 at the time, however she came home with smiles, and was so excited to show us what she learned at camp, and what adjustments she made to her strokes to help her swim better. Overall I think camp definitely helped, her first meet after camp she dropped 10 seconds of her 200 Free and 2 on her 100 free and she final hit her LSC Niagara Cut times for Long Course! Overall I would highly recommend this camp to other swim parents who are looking for ways to help their child improve.
— Grace O. Parent
July 14, 2017: My daughter dropped in all her times at Championships which were only 10 days after the camp, it was the best decision to send her before not after!
