Camp Director Billy Porter
Billy Porter is the head men's and women's tennis coach at Southwestern University.View Billy Porter's Bio ⟩
Billy Porter has been the Southwestern University head men's and women's tennis coach since September of 2013.
Porter earned 2015 SCAC Coach of the Year honors on the men’s side after leading the Pirates to a 17-3 record. Southwestern also reached the conference tournament championship match and was named the 2016 SCAC Coach of the Year after guiding the women to a program record 21-5 overall record.
Overall, Porter has mentored nine All-SCAC selections in his time in Georgetown.
In his first year with the programs, Porter helped the women’s team to a 9-6 mark and the men’s team completed their schedule with a 8-8 record.
Prior to Southwestern, Porter spent three years at the University of Dubuque as the head coach of the men’s team. He also was the leader of the women’s program in his final two years in Iowa. While at Dubuque, he posted a .625 winning percentage, the highest in school history, and crowed six individual conference champions.
His men’s team won the most conference matches in a single season and qualified for the playoffs, a feat that had not been accomplished in the 25 years prior to Porter’s arrival. The women’s team was resurrected by Porter, as he compiled more wins in two seasons than the previous eight years combined.
Porter received a bachelor’s degree in communications from Dubuque in 2005. Three years later, he completed his master’s degree in arts and communications from the same institution.
As an undergraduate at Dubuque, Porter was named team captain and played No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles.
Porter, and his wife Molly, reside in Austin with their dog, Lance.

Camp Program Offerings
Each week we offer an All Skills program, a high school program, and a 10&Under Tennis program. Upon arrival, all participants are evaluated by the staff so that their own instructional needs can be addressed throughout the week.
All Skills Program
All sessions are open to players of all abilities unless otherwise noted. The All Skills program is designed for tennis players of any skill level and background. Campers will learn fundamentals and improve upon their game.
High School Program
The high school program is provided for players ages 13-18 currently on their high school team and wanting to move up the ladder or those planning on making the high school team.
10 and Under Program
The “10 and Under Tennis” Program features the USTA’s successful teaching format. This is an exciting way kids 10 and under are learning to play tennis as well as compete. The courts are smaller and balls are low-compression so they are easier to hit, allowing kids to get to the ball and develop optimal swing patterns. It all makes it easy and fun for them to hit, play and score from the start, while developing skills that will last a lifetime. Please note: We will use short courts and full courts during the camp. This program is optional and younger campers may opt to play regular tennis on the full courts.
