Originally from Oakland, California, Anthony Shavies came to Springfield, Missouri to play collegiate basketball for Missouri State Bears under Coach Barry Hinson. During his time at Missouri State, Shavies earned numerous honors, including Missouri Valley Conference First Team All-Defense, MVC All-Tournament Team, and the Coors Light Leadership Award.
Following his collegiate career, Shavies played professional basketball from 2005 to 2014, earning two championships, two Finals MVP awards, multiple Defensive Player of the Year honors, and several All-Star selections. His international playing career included stops in Austria, Germany, and Ukraine. During a brief retirement in 2008–2009, he served as an assistant coach at Nixa High School under Hall of Fame coach Jay Osborne.
Shavies later served as Director of Basketball Operations for Missouri Flight, where he played a key role in developing the organization into one of the premier youth basketball programs in the state, featuring high-level boys and girls teams.
In 2024–2025, Shavies was named District Coach of the Year as Head Boys Basketball Coach at New Covenant Academy. He guided the Warriors to their best overall record since 2019 and the strongest home record in program history.
In addition to coaching, Shavies has spent the past two decades training many of the top basketball players in the Ozarks region. Known for his high-intensity workouts, player development expertise, and ability to build lasting relationships with athletes, he has established himself as one of Missouri’s most respected basketball trainers.
Beyond basketball, Shavies remains actively involved in the Springfield community, having served on the board for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ozarks as well as the Young Professionals Advisory Council through Community Partnership of the Ozarks.
