  • Joe Murphy

    Ranney School Boy's Assistant Coach

I was born and raised in Dublin, Ireland where I started playing soccer in the street at a very early age. Through my teen years, I played soccer in the street everyday “except when it was lashing rain,” for local teams (prehistoric version of “Travel Teams”), and my primary and high schools. After high school I played on a local semi pro team. I emigrated to the U.S. where I played soccer for Seton Hall — four year starter, captain junior and senior years. I was named Big East Academic/Athletic soccer player of the year back before they were keeping records of such things.

    Joe Murphy

    Ranney School Boy's Assistant Coach

I coached in St. Benedicts Prep for two years, one when Tab Ramos was there. I coached soccer, basketball, and baseball in the Ranney School, kindergarten through 5th grade when my twins were students there. I still coach Middle School B Team basketball there. For the past seven years, I have coached soccer at Ranney, one year as head coach in Middle school, six years as Assistant coach for varsity. Over those six years, Head Coach Donny Gray and I have helped Ranney become a destination point for soccer in the area. Each year we show higher in the State Rounds and our goal is to get to the top of that hill in the near future.
