Established in 1961, Snow Valley Basketball School is the longest-running program of its kind — where basketball players push past limits to become their absolute best. Known for its elite coaching staff, Snow Valley delivers a rigorous overnight basketball experience that has helped shape countless MVP-level competitors.

Athletes sharpen every aspect of their game through early morning workouts, intensive training sessions, and late-night games. You’ll level up your:

· Positioning and shooting fundamentals

· Rebounding – both ball and help side

· Transitions, open court work, and 4-on-4 cutthroat instruction

    WNBA Legend/Co-Director

    Diana Taurasi is one of the most accomplished players in basketball history and an inspiring mentor for athletes of all ages. A three-time WNBA champion and six-time Olympic gold medalist, Diana is widely known for her competitive fire, creativity on the court, and deep love for the game. She is also the WNBA’s all-time leading scorer.

    Camp Director

    Pete Rivas, founder of The Works Basketball Academy, boasts a basketball coaching career spanning over four decades. With a wealth of experience in coaching boys and girls at the youth, high school, and college levels, Rivas has become a respected figure in the basketball community and has established himself as a prominent authority in player development. He holds a USA Basketball coaching license, has served as a long-time Nike Basketball Camp Director, and co-directs the Snow Valley Basketball Schools.

    In 2006, Rivas founded The Works Basketball Academy with a mission to provide high-quality instruction to youth basketball players across Southern California. Operating in various formats (e.g., Academy, Camps, Clinics, School, and Elite Teams), The Works Academy achieves Rivas' overarching goal of elevating players' skills and capabilities.

    During his 20 years with Nike Basketball Camps and Snow Valley Basketball Schools, Rivas has positively impacted thousands of boys and girls, guiding them to realize their full athletic potential. While working with campers of all levels at Nike Basketball Camps, he concentrates on intermediate to advanced participants at Snow Valley Basketball Schools' overnight programs in Santa Barbara, CA. Recognized for his role as a skills and team developer for local high schools in Southern California, Rivas has also directed Nike Basketball Camps in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Boise, Idaho.

    Known for his innovative coaching techniques, he employs a holistic approach to player development, emphasizing not only technical proficiency but also mental resilience and teamwork. Committed to staying up to date on the latest trends and methodologies in the sport, Rivas balances innovation with a continued loyalty to the fundamental principles that have defined his success. This commitment has resulted in the production of multiple high-level athletes.

    Coach Rivas has impacted local high school teams, particularly at Fairmont Preparatory Academy, where beginning in 2008 he served as the Head Varsity Assistant Girls Basketball Coach. Under his guidance, the team achieved remarkable success, securing ten consecutive league titles, one CIF Championship, and one CIF appearance. Beyond local borders, Rivas has extended his influence, collaborating with high school and club basketball players in Asia, Mexico, and South America.

    Having joined the coaching staff at Orange Lutheran in 2022, Rivas has played a pivotal role in elevating the girls’ basketball program to new heights. and his contribution to a coaching staff that secured back-to-back CIF championships in 2022 and 2023.

    Coach Chanaiwa is USA Basketball licensed and has been a coach at Snow Valley California Basketball Schools since 1998 and contributes his SV experience to the growth of his coaching philosophy. Chanaiwa believes strongly in Snow Valley’s emphasis on teaching the game of basketball, taking this passion to various countries throughout the world as an ambassador for the game.

    Coach Chanaiwa has coached at the collegiate and high school level for almost 20 years. He has been the Head Boys Coach at the Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies since 2007 and has won three section titles and Coach of the Year Awards.

    Director

    Rachel Nagel is the current Head Girls Basketball Coach at Pacific Ridge School. Prior to Pacific Ridge High School, she was a Division 1 coach for the University of San Diego and UC Davis women’s basketball programs.

    Rachel Nagel

    Director

    As an assistant, Nagel led offensive strategies and player development for the University of San Diego. In her first season, the Toreros placed third in the West Coast Conference and finished post-season in the third round of the WNIT.

    Nagel was a standout player at UC Davis from 2014-2018, where she scored over 1,000 points. Nagel garnered back-to-back Big West Regular Season Conference Championships, a trip to the WNIT Sweet Sixteen in 2017, and the WNIT Elite Eight the following season in her time with the Aggies.

    Nagel made the All-Big West Conference team in 2017, and was on the Big West All-Academic team three years in a row. During her senior year, she started all 35 games for UC Davis and played the most minutes of any Aggie at 1,022 minutes. She ranked fourth in the Big West in three-point percentage, sixth in three-pointers per game (1.9), second in three-pointers overall (65), and sixth on the UC Davis all-time single season list in three-point percentage (.419).

    Coach Pablo Garcia brings over 22 years of high school basketball coaching experience, including the past 12 years as a head coach. He is currently entering his third season as the head coach at Rubidoux High School in Jurupa Valley, CA. Throughout his career, he has made a lasting impact on programs across Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. Since 2017, Coach Garcia has been a dedicated member of the Snow Valley Basketball School staff, serving as a Director in recent years. He is passionate about player development and finds fulfillment in watching young athletes grow both on and off the court each summer. With his own sons now getting older and beginning to play, he’s excited for them to become part of the Snow Valley tradition. Coach Garcia believes in the unique learning environment Snow Valley provides—combining elite instruction with a competitive atmosphere unmatched by other camps.

Camp Philosophy

Since 1961, the Snow Valley California Basketball Schools have been instructing kids on the fundamentals of basketball. As the longest running basketball school of its kind, you'll receive more instruction in the fundamentals and more chances to improve your skills than anywhere else in the world. This rigorous daily format includes fundamental instruction, clinics and team games that will leave each camper with renewed energy and enthusiasm.

Overnight Campers

Housing & Roommates: Campers will reside in the Van Kampen Residence Hall dorms on campus and stay two per room. If you have a roommate request and have not already given it to us, please do so as soon as possible. Roommate requests are not guaranteed, if you don't have a roommate request, you will be placed in a room with someone near your age. It will be a great opportunity to meet someone new!

Supervision: The staff live in the dormitories with the campers and participate in evening activities. Drugs, alcohol and tobacco are strictly prohibited, and constitute, along with general misconduct, grounds for dismissal from camp without a refund.

Personal Player Report Cards

Snow Valley Basketball programs feature staff and players whose own high school and college coaches were important in their basketball development, so they know how to help you achieve your basketball goals. Snow Valley treats each player as an individual. A Personal Player Report Card will be kept on your camper throughout the week, and given to them at the conclusion of camp. This report card will note particular strengths and weaknesses, and offer suggestions for individual improvement once they have left Snow Valley.

Daily Basketball Play

Daily game competition against other players of similar age and ability levels will be scheduled. Every participant will play a minimum of one-half of every game. In addition to games, a minimum of nineteen clinics concerning individual and team fundamentals will be presented during the week-long session. Drills are a big part of each clinic. We design our program to have an eight to one player to coach ratio and guarantee your son or daughter will receive an excellent week of basketball involvement.

Transportation

Snow Valley Basketball Schools does not directly provide transportation to/from camp but we have gathered local transportation information to help you finalize your travel itinerary.

For general driving directions to Westmont College from SBA and LAX, visit http://www.westmont.edu/_visit... you are flying, we recommend Santa Barbara Municipal Airport (SBA) or Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

Santa Barbara Municipal Airport: SBA is located 15 miles (22 min drive) from Westmont College and operates the following carriers: Alaska Airlines, American Airlines and United Airlines. From the airport, campers can travel by rental car (if traveling with a parent or guardian), commercial and courtesy shuttles, taxis and MTD buses.

MEDICAL PROTOCOL

Most camps have an athletic trainer on-site to help with illness or injury. In case of an emergency, campers will be transported to the nearest hospital.

COMPANY POLICIES

If you need to cancel for any reason up until 24 hours prior to camp check-in, you will receive a camp credit voucher for tuition fees paid that is good through the following year for any sport and is transferable to any immediate family member. Participants who DO NOT attend their registered session (no-shows for any reason) or who do not contact USSC to cancel at least 24 hours prior to camp check-in will not receive a voucher or refund. Cash refunds are given only if Cancellation Protection was purchased at the time of registration and the cancellation is made before your balance due date.

TRANSPORTATION

Transportation is not provided by the camp to or from any airports. If you are flying to or from camp, we recommend using an airport shuttle service. Please schedule flights as close as you can to the check-in times on the first day and check-out times on the last day.

Facility

Train where it all began at Snow Valley California's original site. Westmont College is boasted in the secluded foothills of Santa Barbara, offering stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and Santa Ynez Mountains. Campers will utilize the indoor courts of Murchison Gymnasium for all of instruction this year.

Murchison Gymnasium has been the home for Warriors basketball and volleyball since it opened on January 4, 1969. The gymnasium was renovated in the summer of 2008 with a new floor, new bleachers, new paint and a new sound system. The result is a brighter, more fan friendly arena which servers our athletes coaches and fans.
