Learn from the best at Nike Swim Camp!

Nike Swim Camps is excited to be back in 2026 at Johns Hopkins University! Situated in the north Baltimore neighborhood of Charles Village, competitive swimmers from DC, Maryland, Virginia and beyond can train and improve their strokes at the O’Connor Recreation Center, a 25 yard x 6 lane pool located a half mile north of Scott-Bates Commons where overnight campers reside.

Just minutes from the Inner Harbor, Oriole Park and Camden Yards, the JHU Homewood campus is a peaceful place of green grass, wide-spreading trees, brick residence halls and classroom buildings. The interconnecting walkways create a comfortable country atmosphere in the heart of a major city. Campers train each day at the Newton White Aquatic Center's six-lane, 25-yard lap lane pool.

    Camp Director

    Chris Pospisil joined the Blue Jay swim staff in August 2024. He came to Homewood from from the Eagle Swim Club in Baltimore, where he was an assistant to the National Team Training Group, Senior Performance Group and Senior Group.

    Prior to his time with the Eagles, Pospisil was an assistant coach at Desert Mountain High School and the Scottsdale Aquatic Club in Scottsdale, AZ. He also had assistant coaching stints at the University of South Dakota and College of Saint Mary.

    Pospisil earned both a bachelor's and master's degree in Kinesiology and Sport Management from South Dakota. He was a member of the Coyotes' swim team from 2015 to 2019 and was a two-time captain.

    Camp Director

    Mikaylie DePalma joined the Blue Jay swim coaching staff in August 2024. She came to Baltimore from St. Joseph's University, where she spent last season as an assistant coach for the Golden Eagles. DePalma has also served as a swim coach and counselor for camps at the US Naval Academy and Texas A&M. She is a 2022 graduate of Stony Brook University with a degree in Business Marketing. She was a four-year member of the Seawolves swim team.

    Directing camp this summer, is Scott Armstrong, the head coach of the Johns Hopkins men's and women's swimming teams. Coach Armstrong returned to his alma mater in May 2016 as just the fourth head coach in program history.

    Armstrong has led the Blue Jay men to four top-four finishes at the NCAA Championships, including a runner-up finish at the 2022 Championships. The 2020 and 2021 NCAA Championships were cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

    The men's program has produced 199 All-Americans as well as three national champions in Evan Holder (2017 • 200 Free), Brandon Fabian (2018 • 200 Free) and Kellen Roddy (2022 • 1650 Free). Holder broke the oldest record on the books in Division III swimming - a 29-year-old record - to win the 200 Free in 1:36.42 in 2017. In addition, Armstrong has coached four CoSIDA Academic All-Americans and two NCAA Postgraduate Scholars. Andy Greenhalgh was named the C. Gardner Mallonee Award winner in 2017, which is given to the senior male who has made the most outstanding contributions in athletics at Johns Hopkins.

    On the women's side, Armstrong has led Hopkins to three top-10 NCAA finishes, including a fifth-place finish in 2018. The Blue Jay women have combined to earn 146 All-America honors, including 53 first team selections. He has also coached a national champion (Kristin Cornish • 1650 Free), five CoSIDA Academic All-Americans, an NCAA Elite 90 Award winner and the 2021 CoSIDA At-Large Academic All-American of the Year. In 2018, Anna Wisniewski received the Dr. William Howard Award, which is given to the senior athlete who has excelled both as a scholar and athlete at Johns Hopkins. In 2021, Mikayla Bisignani received both the Howard and Scott Award, which is given to the senior athlete who has demonstrated excellence in athletics, scholarship and extracurricular participation.

    Armstrong returned to Baltimore after serving four years as the assistant men's swimming coach at Stanford. He also had coaching stints at Johns Hopkins, the North Baltimore Aquatic Club (NBAC) and USA Swimming.

    Armstrong joined the Stanford coaching staff in 2012 and worked daily with head coach Ted Knapp on all aspects of team operations. He was instrumental in compiling top-five recruiting classes in the nation in each of his years in Palo Alto. He worked primarily with the distance and IM groups and mentored standout student-athletes Maxwell Williamson (Pan American bronze medalist), Abrahm DeVine (400 IM school record holder) and David Nolan. Nolan won three individual NCAA titles and in 2015 set the NCAA, US Open and American record in the 200 IM. Armstrong's distance and IM group has impressed at the PAC-12 Championships, placing 18 swimmers in the championship finals of the 200 IM over the last four years and claiming three titles each in the 1650 Free and 200 IM. His swimmers have also competed at the World University and Pan American Games.

    Armstrong is a 2003 graduate of the University and was inducted into the Johns Hopkins Athletic Hall of Fame in 2015. He is the third active member of the Blue Jay coaching staff that is a graduate of Johns Hopkins, joining Bob Babb `77 (baseball) and Greg Chimera '09 (football). He and his wife Toni, reside in Baltimore with their children Owen and Evelyn.

    In the storied history of the Hopkins men's swimming program, Armstrong ranks among the all-time greats as he dominated the distance events. He led the Blue Jays to four top-five finishes at the NCAA Championships, including runner-up finishes in his junior and senior years. He earned All-America honors 18 times, which ranked 10th in school history when he graduated and is still tied for 15th more than 15 years after his career ended.

    Armstrong accumulated 10 top-three finishes in individual events at the NCAA Championships, including six runner-up finishes. He was also a member of five relay teams that finished second at NCAAs. When he graduated, he held school records in the 500 Free, 1000 Free and 1650 Free. Armstrong's record in the 1000 and 1650 Free stood until 2014, while his record in the 500 Free stood until 2015. He was the 2003 recipient of the C. Gardner Mallonee Award, which is given to the senior male who has made the most outstanding contribution in athletics at Johns Hopkins. He was also presented with the Blue Jays Unlimited Award, which is given to the Johns Hopkins varsity athlete who most exemplifies the spirit of Blue Jays Unlimited.

You can expect a high demand on these first-come-first-serve camper spots, so please be sure to register early. This summer, JHU is offering three sessions of overnight camp with an extended day camp (8:30am-8:30pm) option for ages 10-18. Our goal is to maximize swimming potential by helping swimmers to create a winning mindset and provide ongoing and constructive feedback in the pool to improve stroke technique.

2026 OVERVIEW

  • Dates: June 29-July 2 & July 13-16
  • Age Group: 10-18

  • Camp Type: Overnight & Extended Day (commuter)
  • Check-in: ALL CAMPERS check-in between 2:00pm-3:00pm Scott-Bates Commons on the first day of camp. There will be a camp orientation meeting after check-in and parents are welcome to attend.
  • Check-out: There will be a closing ceremony at 11:30am on the last day of camp. ALL CAMPERS must check-out immediately following the ceremony at 11:30am. The director will confirm details on the first day of camp.
  • Extended Day Schedule: MON 3PM-8:30PM, TUE-WED 8:30AM-8:30PM, THURS 8:30AM-12PM **Times subject to change
  • Meals: All meals are provided for Overnight campers. Lunch and dinner are provided for all Extended Day (commuter) campers.
  • Program: The Stroke Technique program is designed to provide competitive swimmers with a better understanding of swimming fundamentals. Stroke refinement along with constructive feedback will be the focus of the camp and allows each participant to gain a greater knowledge of proper stroke mechanics and ways to improve themselves individually.

This program is open to any all entrants. For your safety and benefit, we recommend you have competitive swimming experience (e.g. U.S.S. age group, national qualifiers, high school swimmers, or summer league swimmers) and can swim at least 50 meters in all four competitive strokes: fly, back, breast and freestyle.

CAMP CHECK-IN/CHECK-OUT

Session I: June 29-July 2

  • Check-in: Monday between 2:00pm-3:00pm outside Scott-Bates Commons
  • Check-out: There will be a closing ceremony at 11:30am on Thursday. ALL CAMPERS must check-out immediately following the ceremony at 11:30am. The director will confirm details on the first day of camp.

Session II: July 13-16

  • Check-in: Monday between 2:00pm-3:00pm outside Scott-Bates Commons
  • Check-out: There will be a closing ceremony at 11:30am on Thursday. ALL CAMPERS must check-out immediately following the ceremony at 11:30am. The director will confirm details on the first day of camp.

2026 HOUSING

  • Dorm: Scott-Bates Commons
  • Number of Campers Per Room: 2 per room
  • Roommates: Rooms are assigned by age & roommate requests. Roommate requests must be mutual and received no later than 14 days before the start of camp. If you don't have a roommate request, you will be placed in a room with someone near your age. It will be a great opportunity to meet someone new!
  • Bathrooms: Shared
  • Linens: Not included. Bring linens or sleeping bag, pillow, pillowcase, and a towel.
  • Air Conditioning: Dorm Has A/C - No fan needed.

SUPERVISION
The staff reside in the dormitories with the campers and participate in all activities. Drugs, alcohol and tobacco are strictly prohibited, and constitute, along with general misconduct, grounds for dismissal from camp without a refund.

WHAT'S INCLUDED IN THE FEE?

  • Instruction: Morning, afternoon, and evening training sessions
  • Overnight campers: Dormitory housing on campus and all meals are provided.
  • Extended Day campers: Lunch and dinner are provided.
  • Supervision: Staff members reside in campers’ quarters and participate in all activities.
  • Camp T-shirt & Prizes: Campers at multi-day camps will receive a Nike Swim Camps t-shirt and prizes.

INSTRUCTION, EQUIPMENT & FACILITY

  • Ratio: 1:10 staff-to-camper ratio
  • Groupings: Campers are grouped by age, ability, and experience.
  • Equipment Needed: Please bring your water swimsuit, swim cap, googles and towel(s)
  • Facility: O’Connor Recreation Center Pool
  • Medical Protocol: Most camps have an athletic trainer on-site to help with illness or injury. In case of an emergency, campers will be transported to the nearest hospital.

EXTENDED DAY CAMPERS

Checklist of Things to Bring: We recommend that all Extended Day Campers bring a daily pack with the following items: swimsuit, swim cap, goggles, towel, sunglasses, hat, sunscreen, sandals, water bottle, dry land gear (running shoes, t-shirt, athletic shorts, sweatshirt) and any other appropriate clothing for that day’s activities which will be described to you on the first day of camp.

Camp Schedule & Meals:

  • Monday: Extended Day Campers should arrive dressed and ready to swim. You will be assigned a counselor and given a complete schedule of all events during the week. Extended Day Campers stay until 8:30pm. Dinner is provided.
  • Tuesday-Wednesday: Extended Day Camper Hours – 8:30am-8:30pm. Lunch and dinner is provided.
  • Thursday: Extended Day Camper Hours - 8:30am-12:00pm. Check-out is immediately after the camp concludes.

TRANSPORTATION

Transportation is not provided. Campers are responsible for getting to and from camp on their own. There is no supervision before or after camp hours so please make arrangements to pick up your child on time.

Johns Hopkins University Pool Facility Maryland Nike Swim Camp

O’Connor Recreation Center Pool

The O’Connor Recreation Center Pool is home to the Johns Hopkins water polo as well as men's and women's swimming teams. The main pool is a 25-yard, six-lane competition pool. In addition, the facility features a deep water training pool, with depths of eight to 13 feet. The facility also has stadium seating for spectators and includes signage recognizing the men's three NCAA Championships, as well as record boards highlighting program and facility records.
