How long have you been coaching basketball?

I have been coaching basketball for over 15 years. I have been the Head Basketball Coach at CPA in Nashville the last 10 years and started coaching at the Nike Basketball Camp in Nashville at CPA in 2009.

Why did you start coaching basketball?

I love utilizing the gift of basketball as a way to show young people that basketball is the best way to fully understand that they were created to be in relationship with others and to understand what it means to be a part of something larger than myself (team sport). What better way to fully display this than the game of basketball.

Favorite Camp Drill?

I love the 2 on2 closeout blockout continuous drill. It is such a great way for kids to come to life and work on the intangible of toughness.

What is the key to an incredible camp experience for you?

Creating a life-giving culture by the coaches, staff, parents, and campers-you do this through the intentionality of what you symbolically applaud and support and the words you choose to speak individually and collectively to the group.

Favorite drill or activity at camp?

I love creating fun competitions for the campers with some sort of prize on the line.

Go-To Nike Gear?

Nike Camp Staff Shirt, Nike Shorts, Colorful/Crazy Nike Elite Socks, my favorite Nike shoe of the day.

Which college or pro Coach do you admire and why?

Billy Donovan-I love his approach, sense of family and relationship, culture he creates, and his actual basketball philosophy utilizing spacing and concepts I believe in.

Which college or pro player do you make it a point to watch play?

Have to say Steph Curry. He is truly amazing in every way to me.

What message would you like parents to understand prior to camp?

We will teach and re-inforce that every camper, every day they enter the gym controls 2 things- Attitude and Effort. Pick Up The Trash- Leave People, Places, and things better than the way you found them.
