Nike Tennis Camps announced that it will offer a combined tennis and ELS language program at it's Rod Schroeder National Tennis Camp at Carthage College this summer.

The ELS and Rod Schroeder National Tennis Camp at Carthage College, is located on the shores of Lake Michigan. Campers play at the tennis complex featuring 10 courts, six of which feature lights and stadium seating. Lakeside residence halls provide modern, comfortable rooms accommodating two to a room. While tennis is foremost in the daily schedule, rest times and evening hours are filled with other leisure enjoyments. There are lounges for games of all sorts, pool tables, table tennis, card games, and video games. There is also a camp wide karaoke night and a camp dance at the end of the first week. Everyone becomes closely acquainted with each other, so these activities are full of laughter and fun. In addition the staff organizes softball, basketball, volleyball or soccer games each evening.

"Over 12,000 happy tennis campers have attended this camp over the years, which is why it was a natural site to add to our ELS Language and Nike Tennis Camp program, said Colleen Bertiglia, director of Nike International Camp programs.  We're always looking to expand our ELS language offering to more of our existing Nike Camp sites.  The Rod Schroeder National Tennis Camp was a perfect fit combining intense Nike tennis training with a well balanced environment, full of on and off-court activities.  This environment coupled with a great lakeside location allows our international players to improve their skills, experience the beauty of the US and get to know other American campers."  CarthageCollege is located just an hour south of Milwaukee, and an hour north of Chicago — meaning campers have easy access to two of the world’s most dynamic cities. From internationally known art museums to professional sporting events, campers can head to the city to explore for a day, or a weekend as part of planned off-campus activities.

The Nike Tennis Camp is directed by Rod Schroeder, a mid-west tennis legend, who was named to the Midwest Hall of Fame, an honor given to only a few teaching professionals for their outstanding Service, Dedication, and Expertise in the field of tennis instruction. The United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) also selected him as the Midwest Pro of the Year and named him Coach of the Year. Rod has helped develop hundreds of players who have achieved high local, sectional, and national rankings and tournaments laurels. An impressive number receive athletic scholarships, and a number have had success on the pro tour including Rod's protégé, Katrina Adams.

Campers participating in the combined ELS and Nike Tennis Camp program will enjoy up to four hours daily of Nike Tennis instruction along with 2-50 minute ELS classes daily." The ELS language curriculum has been specifically designed for the sport experience and is quite different from other traditional ESL language programs, say Leanne Benoist, Director of Special Programs at ELS Language Centers. We understand the real connection for the kids is sports.  We make the learning experience fun and complementary to what they are learning and doing on the courts every day. Students associate vocabulary and verb conjugation quickly because they’re motivated to do so. It's wonderful to see the international campers so engaged."

US Sports began their relationship with ELS in 2012. Since its inception, the partnership has proven to be both an effective and attractive option for international athletes and their families. In three years, Nike Sport and ELS Language Centers have grown from 3 locations to 13, offering Nike Tennis, NIke Soccer, Nike Basketball, Nike Volleyball and Nike Golf and Swim camps. During the same time, international campers attending Nike Sports Camps have grown 86% to over 4,000 in 2015.

International campers can choose to participate in a Nike Tennis camp only program or choose the combined ELS and Nike Tennis Camp with optional ELS language classes. Camp sessions start June 19th and run through August 12th, one,two and three-week sessions are available.  Click here for a list of other Nike Tennis and ELS Language locations recommended for international campers.
