Uccs Running Coaches Corey Kubatzky

Coach Kubatzky returned to UCCS in 2014, where he previously served as a graduate assistant coach and an assistant coach, to lead the women’s program after spending 4 years as an assistant coach with the Hansons-Brooks Distance Project.

While an assistant coach, the Hansons-Brooks Distance Project produced Olympian and Boston Marathon runner-up Desiree Linden (Davila), several US Team Members for IAAF track and cross-country World Championships, and many top-10 finishers at US Championships. The experience gained while apprenticing under great coaches at the DIII, DII and Professional level and working with some of the best runners in the country on a daily basis helped form his current coaching philosophy. While at UCCS, Coach Kubatzky has coached athletes to school records, NCAA Championship appearances, All-American, All-Region and All-RMAC performances, top-five all-time program marks, and lifetime bests. He also currently coaches a small group of elites and sub-elites, including four athletes who achieved Olympic Trials Qualifiers while under his direction. Kubatzky earned his master’s degree from UCCS and his bachelor’s degree in Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology from Washington University in St. Louis where he competed for the cross-country and track teams, serving as team captain his senior year. He is married to Lavenna Kubatzky, herself an accomplished distance runner, who teaches 3rd grade at Oak

Creek Elementary School. He is originally from Georgetown, Texas.
