Cory Castro Assistant Strength Conditioning Coach

Cory Castro is in his fifth season as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Cal in 2020.

Castro is certified by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Association (SCCC) and the National Strength and Conditioning Association (CSCS), among numerous other certifications.

Prior to coming to Cal, Castro served as the head strength and conditioning coach for the football program at Lamar. There, he designed, implemented and oversaw all aspects of football player development. He also directly oversaw and coached all 14 Olympic sports including basketball, track, baseball and softball. Castro was an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Lamar in 2014, and was the assistant strength coach for football and head strength coach for men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball and track & field.

Before heading to Lamar, Castro spent six months in 2014 as a weightlifting intern at the Gayle Hatch Weightlifting Club. From 2012-13 Castro was a graduate assistant at Louisiana-Monroe. Castro worked with the football program when it played in the 2012 Independence Bowl.

From January to May in 2012, Castro interned with the strength and conditioning staff at Texas, and from May to July in 2011, he interned with the strength and conditioning staff at Kent State.

Castro received his bachelor’s degree in exercise science from John Carroll University in 2012 and his master’s degree in applied exercise science from Louisiana-Monroe in 2013. Castro was a four-year letter winner on the football team at John Carroll University, playing in 40 consecutive games and he was tabbed all-conference in 2011.

He is married to his wife, Sarah Castro.
