USSC Partner, Lytton Sports Camps, Wraps Up First Summer as Operators of Nike Sports Camps in Canada
Lytton Sports Camps, official operators of the Nike Lytton Sports Camps in Canada, recently wrapped up their summer camps with great success! Running camp at 4 locations for 10 weeks may seem like a daunting task, but their team of experienced coordinators and instructors were up for the job. Having over 1,000 children register for their programs was a great accomplishment for Nike Sports Camp's first summer in Canada. Programming that consisted of Tennis, Soccer, Frisbee, Field Games, Arts and Crafts and more, helped create remarkable memories that will last a lifetime.
Lytton's work never ends with just their summer camp programs, however! They offer year round programming that includes winter break and march break camps and tennis lessons. Next up are their fall tennis lessons, which are designed to keep both adults and children active, while developing and further enhancing their tennis skill. “Our goal is to create a fun and interactive environment that will help develop the skills and knowledge of all participants” says Matthew Marchment, Director of Athletic Operations. "Not only does tennis provide a great cardio exercise, but it improves transferable skills like precision, coordination, agility and speed. Of course, we also enjoy the sport too! With Lytton Sports Camps’ progressive tennis programming for junior players, kids get to feel like they’re really playing the sport, rather than just running drills. By teaching cooperative and competitive elements of play, kids get to learn sportsmanship and be challenged at the same time."
Lytton Sports believes every child benefits from active play and sport participation. A child who equates activity with fun, is much more likely to remain active for life. With the introduction of their adult tennis lessons, Lytton encourages participants of all skill levels to give tennis a try! Tennis is a physical and a social sport, and it's never too late to join in. Tennis can also be a family sport! You don’t have to be an expert player to head to your local park and hit a ball around with your kids. As Maggie Addison, Program Director stated, “Providing adult lessons at the same time as our junior lessons provides parents a great way to be active and involved with their kids, while participating in a great sport for them too”. Tennis is truly a wonderful sport that has been shown to improve physical endurance and conditioning. Unique to other sports, tennis is a sport that can be played your entire life.
Wondering where you might be able to play once the November weather forces you indoors? Limited indoor facilities make it difficult for residents of Toronto to find a court to keep their game in tip top shape during the cold winter months. Don't let your skills get rusty and stay that way til Spring. They require no membership commitment or fee, just a willingness to jump in! The program offers training at the beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels and is open to both children (ages 4-17) and adults (18+). Participants are grouped by age and ability based on the Progressive Tennis Model.
