SKILL LEVELS & GROUP PLACEMENT

Upon arrival, all participants are evaluated by the staff so that their own instructional needs can be addressed throughout the week. Campers are then sorted by ability first, then age per the Camp Director's discretion - adjustments are made as needed during camp.

While there are many ways to define skill levels, the following descriptions are what the Camp Directors at Nike Tennis Camps will use to organize and group camp participants. At the time of registration, please choose the level that best represents your athlete's experience:

  • Beginner: Players new to the game with little to no formal tennis instruction. They are still learning the fundamentals, focusing on basic skills and rules of the game. Typically play for recreation and have minimal match-play experience.

  • Intermediate: Players who can serve and sustain rallies with consistency. They are comfortable hitting medium-paced shots but may struggle with all strokes and directional control. Some may have participated in local tournaments and possess a UTR rating or are equivalent to a High School JV player.

Reviews & Testimonials

  • Came away from camp with a lot more skill and more love for tennis

July 6, 2019: They liked that the instructors were free with the kids -- they we'rent strict with their time -My daughter's words. They had a lot of tennis play which they loved and the drills were very good! My daughter really loved the pool option- My kids don't have a lot of tennis experience (they've each had about 20 lessons) and they came away from this intensive 3 days with a lot more skill & loving tennis even more.

  • Caring staff

July 29, 2017: The camper director was wonderful. My child was having a very difficult time because she was the least skilled child at camp. The director personally made sure that the games and activities matched her skill set. He made a small sessions for her to learn skills, he shortened activities when she appeared frusterated and checked in with her throughout the day that make sure she was comfortable. I'm blown away at the extent the director (jimmy) cared for one kid who really loves tennis, but just isn't very good. Thank you.

July 23, 2021: This is my girls' favorite camp every summer! They learn a lot, love the coaches and always have a blast. I appreciate the attention they get from their coaches and the detailed evaluations at the end of the week. Thank you!

  • Coaches were easy going and encouraging

July 4, 2019: Our daughter really loved playing singles and doubles bump and she loved that she got to play all day with other kids who were playing at a similar level. The coaches were very easy going and encouraging.

  • We will definitely send her back next year

July 13, 2018: The first day my daughter was not super excited, she didn't understand all of the games and felt as though many of the kids knew things she had not yet been taught, she was a bit overwhelmed. After speaking with Coach Chau at dropoff the next morning, she came home that afternoon so enthusiastic and excited. The rest of the week she was just bubbling over with stories and explanations and really felt as though her game was improving. (She even got the award for Most Improved) We will definitely send her back next year.

  • Loves camp

July 18, 2017: Holden LOVES the Nike Camp at Lewis and Clark and wouldn't miss it - the amazing thing is he loves it as much now as a 14 y/o JTT player as he did when he was just a little guy starting - 4? 5? years ago. I have been impressed in the way the camp has grown with him, remained fun, competitive, it really is his favorite week of the summer, Jimmy has provided terrific continuity through the years and having a fresh supply of new Lewis and Clark players every summer helps mix it up.

  • Director & coaches were outstanding

July 10, 2015: Director & coaches were outstanding and the format and venue were good. The only reason it isn't something we would do again is that my son, at just-turned-16, was the oldest. However, the coaches were awesome at customizing some activities to be sure he got challenged while he was at camp. That was very appreciated.

July 15, 2016: I thought my kids' tennis abilities improved by taking part in this camp. They enjoyed it overall. Jimmy was great. He was very attentive to each kid and offered good feedback to us as parents and skills-wise. They did a good job teaching my kids new things and helping them improve.

  • Favorite camp to go to!

July 10, 2021: This is Sam's third year coming to the camp and it's bar far his favorite. He wants to be the first one there and last one to leave. Nike Cup is a huge hit for him. He always says the coaches are great too. I love that lunch is included and Sam says they pick good options, so that's a win-win as well.

  • very attentive to each kid and offered good feedback

  • July 15, 2022: The staff was wonderful. I felt like the coach to kid ratio allowed my younger child to feel comfortable and to learn. It was an ideal camp for a kiddo that does not love all day camps.

  • July 30, 2023: Our son has focused on baseball, but he loved the camp and experience so much he is wanting to focus more on tennis. I think it also had to do with the friendly atmosphere and the positivity of the camp.

  • August 22, 2022: My 11 and 13 yo boys were excited to be there, significantly advanced their skills, and had fun! We were very happy the dome with A/C was used this year; the prior year was outdoor only and way too hot outside.

  • July 2, 2023: It was a great experience for my son. The format was great for him to team up with other campers and socialize while learning. NOTE: one other really important feature for me was having indoor courts in the summer. This was important in my camp decision.
