Golf Tip: Tips to Learning Your Club Distances

Tip Photo Club Distances

Learning the correct yardages for each club is vital to your golf game. It will allow you to be much more consistent and will limit the amount of mistakes that can put you in bad positions. Not understanding how far each of your clubs go on a consistent basis will lead you to become an inconsistent golfer. Learning each yardage for each of your clubs is the first step to improving your golf game, once you have mastered your yardages you can then continue to advance the other parts of your game. Tip #1 – Focus On One Club Each Day:

One of the easiest and most simple ways to get a good understanding of the yardages of each club is to focus on one club each day you practice. Practicing with one club each day will allow you to focus solely on that club and will gather repetition and give you a more accurate indication on how far you hit that club consistently. Once you have a good understanding of how far your club goes you can move to the next club.

Tip #2 – Start With Wedges:

When you are trying to get an understanding on how far each of your clubs go, you want to start with the lowest club you have in your bag. Typically, this would be anything from a lob wedge, sand wedge, or a pitching wedge. These clubs are the easiest to get a gauge for how far you hit them. You want to focus on your lowest clubs because the higher clubs, such as, 5-iron and up, are harder to hit consistently.

Tip #3 – How To Practice Ball Striking Repetition:

When practicing on the driving range, the best way to get the most accurate yardage is repeatedly striking the ball cleanly. You want to practice as if you are on the course. If you keep practicing with a smooth swing, the same swing you would take if you were on the course, this will give you the most accurate representation of how far each club goes.

Tip #4 - Practice:

This last tip may seem obvious, but it is extremely important to your success. Repetition is the most important thing especially when you are trying to get an accurate idea of how far each club goes. The more consistent you get with each club the easier it will be to apply this to your course play.
