Soccer Tip: How to Perform the Perfect Volley

Volley

When trying to perform a volley it all comes down to technique. It takes a lot of practice but once the skill is learned it is one of the best feelings in soccer. Here are 5 tips to perform a volley.

  • Keep your eye on the ball. When attempting a volley, it is common for players to look at the goal or think of the celebration before they even score. All focus needs to be on the ball.
  • Keep your chest over the ball. This allows for you to have more control of the ball and keep it on frame towards the goal.
  • Make sure your plant foot is aimed towards the goal. When getting ready to strike the ball your plant foot needs to be in line with the goal and aimed at the spot you are wanting the ball to go.
  • Let the ball drop below your knee. Don’t get anxious and swing when the ball is in the air. Wait for the ball to drop just below your planted leg’s knee and then make one smooth swing.
  • Strike the middle of the ball. When striking the middle of the ball there is a better chance it goes where your plant foot is aiming. Striking the ball too high directs it to the ground. Strike the ball too low and it flies over the goal.

Scoring a volley is not an easy thing to do. It is a rare gem that happens every so often. Every player is faced with the opportunity and when the time comes these soccer tips will help you succeed.
