US Sports is very excited to welcome once again Pete Rivas, Founder of The Works Sports Academy, as director of our Nike Basketball camp at Fairmont Preparatory Academy in Anaheim, CA. Fairmont Prep is Southern California's leading preparatory school and offers a safe, clean, and top-notch facility to host camp. We are thrilled to offer 3 sessions of camp this summer!
Pete Rivas, Founder of The Works Sports Academy of Orange County, brings almost 30 years of coaching experience and enthusiasm for basketball to camp as he directs three sessions in June, July, and August. He has assembled a team of coaches and collegiate players to help guide campers throughout the Shooting/Offensive Skills program. Pete's passion for helping young players improve their game all while being safe, healthy, and having fun makes for a great and memorable camp experience.
The Shooting/Offensive Skills camp gives campers the opportunity to focus on improving their shooting skills. Emphasis is placed upon: Technique, Footwork, Shooting drills, Shooting off the dribble, Shooting off the pass, Shooting games, Free Throw Shooting, and Post/Perimeter Shooting. Players will also work on dribbling, passing, shooting, and styles of play.

His programs with The Works help level the playing field in an environment of elite and over-trained players. Pete and his staff have trained many high profile high school programs both in and out of season.
In addition to The Works, Coach Rivas has been a mainstay at some of the premier camps in the country, including the Snow Valley Basketball Schools in Santa Barbara, CA since 1996.
Among the many fine athletes he’s worked with, Pete has trained players currently attending Vanderbilt, USC, UConn, Boise State, LMU, and Iowa State. He is the exclusive trainer for the #1 high school team in the nation, perennial power: Brea Olinda High School (Brea, CA).
Coach Rivas has drawn players from all over the world to his camps and clinics and continues to expand his camp offerings within the Nike Basketball Camp family.
Coach Komaki joins our staff after just completing her first season as Head Coach at Sierra Canyon after spending the previous two seasons at Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana. Komaki led the Sierra Canyon Trailblazers to a Div 5AA CIF Championship and Div 5 State Championship. Komaki was named the CIF and State Division 5 Coach of the Year. In just two seasons as Assistant Coach at Mater Dei, Komaki was a part of a coaching staff that won two undefeated Trinity league titles (2011, 2012), back to back CIF Championships (2011, 2012), back to back state championships (2011, 2012) and a National Championship (2011).
Prior to Mater Dei, Komaki spent six seasons coaching at her alma mater, Troy High School in Fullerton. At Troy, Komaki led her squads to 6 undefeated league championships in 6 seasons and an 86% win percentage as associate head coach. In 5 years, 18 players went on to the next level. Alicia played high school basketball under Kevin Kiernan at Troy High in Fullerton. Alicia was a 4 year starter and 2 year captain, leading the team her Junior year to Troy's first girls basketball CIF Championship. Komaki's honors include 1st team All-League, OC Register 1st team All-County, 1st team All-CIF, 1st team All-State, LA Times All-Region, and Mcdonald's All American Nominee. She currently holds records at Troy for most 3's made in a career, game and season and is 3rd all time career in assists. Komaki went on to play D1 at Pepperdine University under Mark Trahk.

Coach Rivas designs his camps so that the day-to-day camp routine is comprised of the following five categories:
Warm-up: Foam Roll/Static Stretch/Stabilization/Core & Balance/Dynamic Warm-Up/Injury Prevention -- Warming up properly is the #1 thing you can do to prevent injury. We go to great lengths to make sure your body is properly stretched and stabilized before we begin training.
SAQ Attack: Speed/Quickness/Explosion/Footwork/Agility/Strength -- We will teach you the proper techniques of movement, change of direction, acceleration, deceleration, and jump/landing techniques.
Footwork: Catch & Shoot/Half Court Attack/Catch Attack/Dribble Attack/Transition Attack/Finishing Moves -- The quality of your: catching, passing, shooting and ball handling is directly related to the quality of your footwork. Our workouts are literally “built from the ground up.”
Conditioning: With Out Ball/With Ball/Combination/Competitive Drills/Controlled Scrimmage -- Once a habit has been formed it must be applied when tired and at game speeds. Out workouts conclude with an opportunity to perform learned skills in a competitive setting.
Cool Down: Foam Roll/Static Stretch/Core Stabilization/Partner Stretch/Band Stretch -- Cool down is a period vital to the regenerative process. When basketball is long done, you will still have your body to live with. A little time now will pay great dividends later in life.
