  • They liked that the instructors were free with the kids -- they we'rent strict with their time -My daughter's words. They had a lot of tennis play which they loved and the drills were very good! My daughter really loved the pool option- My kids don't have a lot of tennis experience (they've each had about 20 lessons) and they came away from this intensive 3 days with a lot more skill & loving tennis even more.
  • This is my girls' favorite camp every summer! They learn a lot, love the coaches and always have a blast. I appreciate the attention they get from their coaches and the detailed evaluations at the end of the week. Thank you!
  • Our daughter really loved playing singles and doubles bump and she loved that she got to play all day with other kids who were playing at a similar level. The coaches were very easy going and encouraging.
  • My son absolutely loved this camp. He wants to go again this summer and can't wait for next summer. :) He felt included, encouraged, and that feedback was helpful but kind.
  • Hugh simply loved playing tennis all day and improving his game. He also loves the different competitions.
  • This is Sam's third year coming to the camp and it's bar far his favorite. He wants to be the first one there and last one to leave. Nike Cup is a huge hit for him. He always says the coaches are great too. I love that lunch is included and Sam says they pick good options, so that's a win-win as well.

  • Learning specific skills in a fun environment
  • It was a great experience for my son. The format was great for him to team up with other campers and socialize while learning. NOTE: one other really important feature for me was having indoor courts in the summer. This was important in my camp decision.
  • He was able to have fun and improve his skills at the same time.
  • My son improved his tennis skill a lot and he likes the lunch there too
  • Great counselors, fun games, delicious lunches, great communication from camp director
  • Amazing camp, fun, very well organized and my son raves about how much he enjoys his time.
  • My daughter just loved the experience and the camp directors. She was almost in tears knowing it was over.
  • Dean was able to learn how to play tennis. This was his first "real" tennis camp. He had attended Skyhawk ones in the past - but this one he really learned.
  • My son enjoys every minute of this camp. He's begged me to go every week this summer - which is not his normal reaction to summer camps. best camp director there is at this camp!
  • The staff was wonderful. I felt like the coach to kid ratio allowed my younger child to feel comfortable and to learn. It was an ideal camp for a kiddo that does not love all day camps.
  • Our son has focused on baseball, but he loved the camp and experience so much he is wanting to focus more on tennis. I think it also had to do with the friendly atmosphere and the positivity of the camp.

Mam was an All-American for Whitman, earned All-Northwest Conference First-Team honors all four years and was ranked as high as No. 4 in the nation. At the time his competitive career ended, he was the all-time wins leader for Whitman.

After his collegiate career concluded, Mam competed in open tournaments and reached a high singles ranking of No. 3 in the Pacific Northwest. He also participated as a member of Cambodia's National Davis Cup team from 2013-19. • Jimmy chau bio

    Jimmy Chau

    Co-Director

Jimmy Chau was named the head coach in the summer of 2018 after starting his tenure as an assistant in 2005. Overall, the 2019-20 season is his 15th on the coaching staff and his second leading the program.

    Jimmy Chau

    Co-Director

A two-time West Region assistant coach of the year, Chau has helped the Pioneers ascend into the Intercollegiate Tennis Association national rankings and remain there annually. In 2017-18, both the men's and women's programs were ranked in the top 30 and neither has finished a regular season outside of the rankings since the 2014-15 academic year.

In 2016, Chau was the team’s primary assistant coach as the women's team won the 2016 Northwest Conference championship, Lewis & Clark's first since 1979. Chau has also coached multiple All-Americans, most recently during the 2016-17 season.

The Pioneers men's program has also flourished with Chau on the staff. The Pios qualified for the NWC Championship final in both 2017 and 2018, something the program had never done before. Lewis & Clark also ended Whitman's nearly decadelong NWC undefeated streak in 2017. Seniors Brenden Barrows and Gordon Barrows were selected the Joe Huston Male Athlete of the Year award winners at the 2018 ELCYS (Excellence in Lewis & Clark's Year of Sports).

Since the ELCYS began in 2016, a tennis program has earned the Team of the Year award with the women winning in the inaugural year followed by back-to-back honors for the men.

A native to Portland, Chau competed for the tennis program at Lewis & Clark for three seasons (his fourth year was spent overseas) and was named the captain and MVP during his senior season in 2001. He was selected as an ITA Scholar-Athlete All-American while playing for the Pioneers and graduated with Delta Mu Delta honors in Business and Economics.

Upon arrival, all participants are evaluated by the staff so that their own instructional needs can be addressed throughout the week. Campers are then sorted by ability first, then age per the Camp Director's discretion - adjustments are made as needed during camp.

While there are many ways to define skill levels, the following descriptions are what the Camp Directors at Nike Tennis Camps will use to organize and group camp participants. At the time of registration, please choose the level that best represents your athlete's experience:

  • Beginner: Players new to the game with little to no formal tennis instruction. They are still learning the fundamentals, focusing on basic skills and rules of the game. Typically play for recreation and have minimal match-play experience.

  • Intermediate: Players who can serve and sustain rallies with consistency. They are comfortable hitting medium-paced shots but may struggle with all strokes and directional control. Some may have participated in local tournaments and possess a UTR rating or are equivalent to a High School JV player.
